Ontario invited a total of 138 international students to apply for a provincial nomination for permanent residence on May 18.

The Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP) invited immigration candidates who had Expression of Interest (EOI) profiles and who were eligible under the Ontario Employer Job Offer: International Student Stream.

Invited candidates needed to have an EOI score of at least 77 in order to receive an invitation. In addition, they must have had a job offer in Ontario.

The International Student Stream under the Ontario Employer Job Offer category provides a pathway for foreign nationals who have a job offer in Ontario. Candidates do not need to be physically in Canada to apply. However, they do need to be international graduates.

This means that they must have completed a program at a Designated Learning Institution (DLI) in Canada.

Ontario recently introduced introduced a new Expression of Interest (EOI) system for two Provincial Nominee Programs (PNPs) under Ontario Employer Job Offer. The first is the International Student Stream. The other is the Foreign Worker Stream.

The province is also planning to introduce the EOI system for the In-Demand Skills, Masters Graduate & PhD Graduate streams in the near future.

Before the introduction of this system, candidates could only register when Ontario opens its online portal.

How to immigrate to Ontario through the International Student Stream?

If you want to apply to immigrate to Ontario through the International Student Stream, you are required to register an EOI profile on the OINP e-Filing portal. This will allow you to enter the EOI pool.

The next step is for Ontario to award you with a score based on the information you submitted when you registered an EOI profile.

You are awarded points according to your age, education, language ability, the region you studied or worked, the skill level of your job offer and work experience as well as other factors. The skill level is measured according to the National Occupational Classification (NOC).

The OINP also takes your wage into consideration. In addition, it awards an additional 10 points to address the province's labour market needs.
