Canada's provinces have been busy in the lead up to Christmas 2020 inviting even more skilled worker immigration candidates.

Last week on December 15, Canada's largest province, Ontario, held perhaps its last draw of the year, inviting 668 Express Entry candidates to apply for a provincial nomination.

Under its Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP), the province offered Notifications of Interest (NOIs) to candidates who are eligible under its Express Entry Human Capital Priorities (HCP) stream. This stream is aligned with the federal Express Entry system.

On December 16, Canada's second largest province, Quebec, invited 233 immigration candidates. The invitations were issued to candidates who submitted an Expression of Interest (EOI) under the province's Arrima system (which is similar to the federal Express Entry system)..

Two days later, on December 17, Manitoba invited 419 immigration candidates under its Manitoba Provincial Nominee Program (MPNP).

On the same day, December 17, Prince Edward Island also hosted a Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) draw. The Prince Edward Island Provincial Nominee Program (PEI PNP) invited 195 immigration candidates, under its Express EntryLabour Impact, and Business Impact streams.

Also on December 17, the Saskatchewan Immigrant Nominee Program (SINP) invited 576 immigration candidates.

Yesterday, the federal department of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) held what might be its last Express Entry draw of the year, inviting another 5,000 immigration candidates.

The flurry of government invitations before the end of 2020 is due to Canada's desire to welcome as many immigrants as possible after the coronavirus pandemic. In late October, Canada announced it plans to target the arrival of over 400,000 new immigrants per year beginning in 2021 to promote its post-COVID economic recovery.
