OECD report makes recommendations for immigration policy

The Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development’s (OECD) International Migration Outlook 2008 report recommends that OECD countries adapt their immigration and labour migration policies to be more in line with likely future demand for workers in all economic sectors; both high-skilled and lower-skilled.


Nova Scotia to prepare new immigration strategy to attract more newcomers

Nova Scotia Immigration Minister Ramona Jannex said on Tuesday that the province aims to double the number of immigrants that settle in Nova Scotia. She said she hopes to have a new strategy ready by spring to achieve this goal.


Legislation passed to restore citizenship to 'Lost Canadians'

Bill C-37, which will amend Canada’s Citizenship Act, was introduced to restore Canadian citizenship to the tens of thousands who lost, or who never had Canadian citizenship because of several little-known particularities in the Act. The Senate recently passed the bill after third reading. It will become law no later than a year following Royal Assent.


Job creation in Canada sets records

According to Statistics Canada, Canada produced 106,900 new jobs in the month of September. Though most of these were part-time positions, this figure is 10 times better than what economists had expected.

Immigrants earning more money in Western Canada

New statistics from Citizenship and Immigration Canada suggest that this trend is changing. The stream of new arrivals to these three cities is dropping off as Canada’s small and mid-sized urban areas are enjoying an immigration boom.
