On Thursday, March 13, 2014 Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) issued a statement encouraging prospective immigration application to use authorized immigration representatives. This statement was issued as part of Fraud Prevention Month, which has been ongoing during the month of March.

CIC has partnered with the Federation of Law Societies Canada and the Immigration Consultants of Canada Regulatory Council to help promote awareness of immigration fraud and provide information on how it can be avoided.

“Unauthorized representatives are not trained or regulated, and take money for services they cannot provide, which often leads to the refusal of applications that might otherwise e approved,” said the CEO of the Immigration Consultants of Canada Regulatory Council. “Regulated Canadian Immigration Consultants are highly trained and effectively regulated, so their clients can be sure that they are getting the best advice and representation possible.”

Unauthorized representatives can be subject to fines and imprisonment, as well as applicants who have knowingly or unknowingly committed immigration fraud.
