A report released by the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development concluded that Canada is the most tolerant country of the 140 countries polled.

Eighty-four percent of Canadians reported high tolerance of minority groups, such as minorities and immigrants, well above the average of 61 percent. Australia, the U.S., and New Zealand were also found to be tolerant of minority groups.

Canadians were also found to report a high rate of positive experiences, such as smiling, experiencing enjoyment, feeling well-rested, and being treated with respect. They rated second in positive experiences, after Iceland.

Canada ranked sixth for having the highest proportion of foreign-born people amongst its population. Approximately one in five people living in Canada is foreign-born. Of the Anglophone countries polled, Canada had the lowest fertility rate, approximately 1.68 children per woman.

A study conducted last year showed that Canadian children, around 15 years old, ranked third best in the world for their reading skills, and Canada ranked sixth out of 60 countries for overall education.
