Canada will maintain total immigration targets in 2010

the CanadaVisa Team - 21 July, 2015

Citizenship, Immigration and Multiculturalism Canada Minister Jason Kenney released this year's annual report on immigration to parliament today. Canada will maintain its overall target for immigration in 2010, expecting to welcome between 240,000 and 265,000 new immigrants.

"While other countries have cut back immigration levels as a short term response to the global economic downturn, our government is actually maintaining its immigration levels to meet the country's medium- to long-term economic needs," Kenney said.

The report emphasized that the provinces, through their Provincial Nominee Programs, will have an increased impact on the number of economic immigrants arriving in Canada.Quebec, which has a separate immigration agreement with the federal government, is also expected to welcome a greater number of immigrants in 2010.
