Canada invited 761 Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) candidates to apply for permanent residence in the latest Express Entry draw, held on September 29.

Those invited must have previously received a provincial nomination under a PNP. This means that they get an additional 600 Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) points.

Candidates needed to score at least 742 in order to receive an Invitation to Apply (ITA). They will now have up to 60 days to apply for permanent residence.

In the previous PNP only draw, the CRS score cut-off was 10 points lower, at 732.

The PNP is an immigration program that Canadian provinces and territories can use to nominate certain candidates who may address provincial labour market needs.

Many Express Entry draws have been program-specific since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2021, all of the draws have been program-specific. This is because of travel restrictions and health and safety measures that have been in place.

Many candidates who are eligible for CEC or PNP are likely to already be living in Canada on a temporary visa.

Canada invites record number of candidates in 2021

Canada has already surpassed its target of inviting 108,500 candidates in 2021. With today's draw, the total number of Invitations to Apply (ITAs) issued is 109,696.

At the same point in 2020, Canada had invited just 78,350.

Canada has promised to welcome over 400,000 new immigrants every year for the next three years.

What is Express Entry?

Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) is Canada's federal immigration department. It uses the Express Entry system to manage permanent residence applications through Canada’s three main economic-class programs: the Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP), the Federal Skilled Trades Class (FSTC) and the Canadian Experience Class (CEC).

Once you enter the Express Entry pool, you will be given a score according to the CRS. This score is based on many parameters such as your age, work experience, education and your language ability.

If you get an invitation to apply, you will still have to submit your application and IRCC will then make a final decision.

If you are successful, you will get a Confirmation of Permanent Residence (COPR). If you need one, you will also get a visa sticker on your passport. The final step would be to move to Canada and receive your Permanent Residence (PR) card.
