Latest Express Entry draws invite candidates to apply for permanent residence

Canada invited a total of 4,962 immigration candidates to apply for permanent residence over two Express Entry draws, one day apart.

On July 21, Canada invited 462 Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) candidates to apply for permanent residence. In order to get an Invitation to Apply (ITA), the minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score needed was 734.

Candidates who get nominated by a province are awarded an extra 600 CRS points in the Express Entry system. This means that the minimum core points needed for this draw (without the extra points) was just 134. Getting this many extra points effectively guarantees receiving an invitation to apply for permanent residence.

A day later, on July 22, Canada invited 4,500 Canadian Experience Class (CEC) candidates to apply for permanent residence. The minimum score for this draw was 357. This was the second lowest score for a CEC-only Express Entry draw.

So far in 2021, Canada has not held an all-program draw. Canada has been holding many program-specific draws such as these two since the country introduced travel restrictions in March 2020.

The Express Entry system is used by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) to manage Canadian permanent residence applications. These applications are made through one of the main economic-class programs:

All Canadian provinces and territories except for Quebec and Nunavut have immigration programs that are aligned with the federal Express Entry system.

If you sign up for an Express Entry profile, you will be given a CRS score. This score is based on multiple factors like your age, education, work experience and language proficiency.

CRS points can be given to one individual or to a couple. Canada regularly invites the highest-ranking candidates to apply for permanent residence in an Express Entry draw.

After receiving an invitation to apply, a candidate would submit their application to IRCC, who will then make a final decision. Canada aims to process most of the applications within six months.

Successful candidates will receive a Confirmation of Permanent Residence (COPR) and a visa on their passport if they need one to enter Canada. The last and final step would be to move to Canada and receive a Permanent Residence (PR) card.

Canada is committed to meeting its immigration targets this year and is looking to invite many more people to apply for permanent residence.

In fact, Canada is looking to welcome over 400,000 immigrants every year between 2021 and 2023.

If you want to immigrate to Canada, you can still create an Express Entry profile. IRCC still continues to accept admissions to the Express Entry system. All travel restrictions on approved permanent residents are now lifted.
