A diverse group of workers to represent Canada's Employer Portal

Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) has announced that it is introducing a new electronic system, known as the Employer Portal, for managing the processing of offers of employment made by Canadian employers to foreign workers.

The Employer Portal will be available from October 26, 2015, and will assist Canadian employers looking to hire foreign workers on a temporary basis through the Temporary Foreign Worker Program or the International Mobility Program.

Employers must submit offers of employment in Labour Market Impact Assessment-exempt situations directly to CIC using this new system. The previous form, IMM 5802 Offer of Employment to a Foreign National Exempt from the Labour Market Impact Assessment, will no longer be accepted.

If an employer has already provided a completed form to a foreign worker, the worker should submit a work permit application before November 21, 2015. If the foreign worker does not submit his or her application before this date, the employer must resubmit the Offer of Employment using the Employer Portal.

The introduction of the Employer Portal follows other changes made to the processing of LMIA-exempt work permit applications earlier this year. The Employer Portal, which is only to be used in applications for temporary residence in Canada, also marks a further step in Canada’s aim to move applications for residence in Canada, temporary and permanent, to online systems.
