About Canadian Immigration Lawyer Ali Samhat

Ali Samhat, Senior Attorney at Cohen Immigration Law

Ali Samhat is a Senior Attorney at Cohen Immigration Law where he advises clients on Canadian citizenship, with a particular focus on proof of citizenship and citizenship by descent. A lawyer called to the Bar of Ontario, Ali brings courtroom experience, institutional legal depth, and a measured, methodical approach to every file he takes on.

Before joining Cohen Immigration Law, Ali served as an Assistant Crown Attorney, where he conducted bail hearings and trials on behalf of the Crown — work that demands precision, sound judgment and composure under pressure. He later moved in-house at TD Insurance, advising one of Canada's largest financial institutions. He obtained his law degree from Bond University.

Clients value Ali's calm and his candour. He takes the time to understand a family's history properly, explains clearly what the evidence does and does not support, and is straightforward about what to expect — which is what most people want when they are being told, often for the first time, that they may already be Canadian. Outside the office, Ali is a dedicated endurance athlete who trains and competes at the Ironman level.

Areas of focus: Canadian Citizenship · Proof of Citizenship · Citizenship by Descent
