The Government of Canada is investing more than $220,000 to support the Newcomers Services program at the YMCA in Sudbury, Ontario. This funding, made available through Citizenship and Immigration Canada’s (CIC’s) Settlement Program. The YMCA will provide one-on-one support, career counselling, and referrals to community services for newcomers in Sudbury.

The YMCA in Sudbury is officially launching their newcomer services today, November 12, 2010. Services like these will help immigrants to better integrate and participate in the Canadian economy and society. The YMCA in Sudbury has been a leader in the delivery of employment and community programs for almost 25 years.

In the past four years, the Government of Canada has tripled its annual funding for newcomer services in Ontario. In Ontario alone, for 2011, the federal government is providing $428 million for settlement services for newcomers, such as language training, and job search workshops. The Settlement Program will also place immigration settlement workers in schools to help children.
