Canadian Museum for Human Rights to Open in 2010

Currently in fundraising phase, the Canadian Museum for Human Rights will have the mission "to advance understanding and support for human rights in Canadaand throughout the world." The vision is to create a centre for learning and discussion.

Programming will focus on instilling the values of human rights inyoung people and will encourage Canadians to take action against human rights violations.

The Canadian government has announced that this will be a federal museum and has committed to providing a significant amount of funding for itsconstruction and annual operating budget.

The museum organizers expect that "the world will embrace the Canadian Museum for Human Rights as a powerful symbol of Canada's unwavering commitment torecognizing, promoting and celebrating human rights."

The museum will be located in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
