Quebec gives employers direct access to immigration candidates in Arrima

Quebec added a new feature to its Arrima-linked Employer Portal that allows companies to search the database for candidates that best match their labour needs.

The feature, announced back in June 2019 when the Quebec Ministry of Immigration launched the Employer Portal, was made available to businesses on November 5, 2020.

Up until last week, employers had to use an advisor from the Ministère de l’Immigration, de la Francisation et de l’Intégration (MIFI) to search for candidates and could not access the Employer Portal by themselves.

The new feature will allow companies registered in the Registraire des Entreprises Québec (Enterprise Register) to go directly to the ministry’s website, access the profiles of immigration candidates, offer them a job and by doing so initiate the immigration process.

Once they have identified potential candidate in Arrima, Quebec’s online Expression of Interest Management System, companies will be able to benefit from a personalized assistance service to help them choose the right immigration program and go through the various steps involved to recruit the candidates.

The Employer Portal is a free service developed to help address the province’s long-standing labour shortages and ensure economic recovery in the coming years.

To access the Employer Portal, companies must first create a profile in Arrima and submit a request for assistance. Then, companies will receive a personalized response from a ministry advisor within five business days. Once this step has been completed and access has been granted, companies will be able to conduct independent searches, store results and connect with candidates.

The employer portal has been well received by business owners who see it as a way to bring in immigrants who will meet their current labour needs. Potential immigrants, for their part, see the portal as a way to expand their employment opportunities.

The province of Quebec plans to welcome up to 47,500 new immigrants in 2021.
