Canada continues to assist Haiti in time of need

the CanadaVisa Team - 08 December, 2010

The Government of Canada has recently announced they will continue to aid Haiti in the rebuilding of their country. Due to the massive earthquake in January 2010 which devastated the country, Haiti is in desperate need of support to restore many essential services to its citizens.

Canada is helping to rebuild bridges, roads, shelters, water sanitation facilities, marketplaces, local governance and more in hopes of meeting the basic needs of the people and to commence the stimulation of the economy. In order to do so, Canada is investing approximately $410 million in a program titled the Haiti Earthquake Relief Fund.

Canada has also committed resources to the prevention and treatment of the cholera outbreak, which has already claimed the lives of so many people. In addition to providing emergency medical services, Canada is distributing chlorinated water across the affected regions and to health centers around the country. Clean drinking water is fundamental in preventing the spread of the disease.

Although it will take some time to rebuild Haiti, Canada will continue to contribute its resources to assist Haitians to reclaim their lives.
