Just wanted to post this, as there seems to be many on this forum that condone outland applications while both Spouses are in Canada, or pending Visit Visa's are available. Note this thread applies to applications for non visa exempt countries.

Please note that if you both are in Canada and you apply outland your application will be forwarded to your respective over seas Visa Office for processing after sponsorship approval.

While this seems great to have quicker processing, it's quite horrible for those who are actually waiting for their spouse as the applications will take time for immigration officers to process, and therefore will lengthen the waiting time for them.

So please, please, please....lets all be fair, and apply accordingly for the appropriate circumstances.

Thank you!

We're not condoning anything (condoning implies we're doing something wrong). We are simply re-communicating CIC's rules. If you are in Canada - you can chose to apply either outland or inland. It's a personal choice.

I dont necessarily agree with you:

A) you cannot work here in Canada until you get work permit (can take up to 1 year) and/or approval for PR. Is the partner prepared to pay the way - or can they ? At least, the partner can go back home and work.

B) what if the non-Candian gets sick ? Are you prepared to pay Health care costs and/or Insurance ?

B) you can always Appeal a negative decision when you are 'outland'. This is NOT possible 'inland'

For me, it would have been better to apply 'inland' but this is not always the case.

That's a little bit of a broad assumption you are making! People have lots of reason to apply outland vs inland and vice-versa! Saying that just because they are both in Canada means that they should file inland is not well thought out! What if they have children or other family that they need to be able to visit during the process? What if they are concerned that they might be denied and want the ability to contest it? The fact that you are willing to come on here and tell people that they should take the longer processing time just to keep times shorter for outland visa offices and I see that you are applying from one of the shorter timed places is pretty lame to me!!! how about instead of telling others that they should just "all be fair, and apply accordingly" (even when it is completely aloud with CIC to chose inland or outland) you should find some way that will bring more attention to the giant discrepancies that are in CIC and help everyone!

I think you are confused with the word "condemn"

Nope - I'm not. Definition of condone:

To overlook, forgive, or disregard (an offense) without protest or censure.

We wanted the freedom to still be able to leave Canada if we need to. Applying outland is also faster for us than applying inland.

CIC says we can do it, so we're doing it.

CIC has posted on their website before the re-vamp requesting people to apply Outland whenever possible.

I suspect there's ulterior motives here. Keep in mind if everyone went Inland, there would be more employees at Vegreville and less at the VO. It would balance out in the long run.

I know how rough it is to be away from your family, and I understand that you are venting, but other applicants are not responsible for your application. Every applicant needs to make the decision that best fits their situation and sometimes Outland is a better option, even if both are in Canada.

The real systemic delays are caused by people who abuse the system through fraud and wilful misrepresentation PLUS the inevitable bureaucracy.

Some people are going to have an easier road than others. And while I sometimes get irrationally irritated that my application is most likely going to take longer than others because my spouse isn't visa exempt, that is not the fault of visa exempt applicants. We're in this together. This is a really alienating process.

I am thankful every day that my husband is not from a country whose VO takes two years to process applications, that we have technology and good phone lines so we can actually talk, and that I have the income available to me to make financial sacrifices and that I'm a Canadian citizen to fly to my husband because he will not be able to enter Canada until the PR visa is in his passport. Good and bad. I suggest you look at the ways that you are lucky and privileged and be thankful for those few things because the frustrating parts of this process will drive anyone crazy.

While I understand that it must be incredibly hard to be apart from your spouse for such a long time and I'm grateful that I can be with mine while waiting, it is also very difficult living off of one income for such a long time. I am thankful that we have the choice of applying outland or inland, so we applied outland. Why would I want to wait maybe one year more if I don't have to? Also, as others have mentioned before, what if I had to leave Canada? If there are 2 options, you should allow people to chose whatever option is better for them.

Do you really think the Manila VO will speed things up with a bit of a "ligher" work load? They're already one of the quicker VO's. I think they'll take a bit of a breather while awaiting the next onslaught of applications. And come on . . . your application is FAR from being overdue. (IMHO) Anyway, those that are IN Canada with a status that "will expire" MUST apply outland anyway, in case they have to leave for that reason.

Jeeeeeze guys....calm down. There is no reason to get "mad"...or offensive!

Please read between the lines in OP. IF the opportunities are available to you to apply inland, then do so!
So IF you can afford it....IF you can obtain work permit....IF ETC.!

Also note that the applications reported on this forum roughly account for approximately 11% of total applications filed, so YES, I do believe it will speed things up if the total applications sent in to remote offices were even reduced by 1%, as a matter of fact, if it speeds it up by 1 day its 1 day closer to being re-united for all who are actually apart. How could ANYONE not understand that?

AND....

IT DOESN'T MATTER IF MY APPLICATION IS ONLY 1 MONTH OR 1 YEAR IN PROCESS!! It doesn't mean that I miss my wife any less than anyone else that is apart......BUT, this isn't about my application, as I know we still have some waiting, AND all applications sent in after this post will most likely not affect ours at all...

I'M JUST SHOWING MY CONSIDERATION FOR OTHERS....FOR THE FUTURE APPLICANTS!

Exactly the reason we did out-land also while living in Canada together. We needed to visit my partner's home country during the process for a family wedding.

I think it's absolutely ridiculous that Canada can't give some kind of limited temporary visa for in-land applicants that want to leave the country for a short time during processing.
