My daughter is a Canadian born citizen who is contemplating having her child in Mexico, where I reside. She is not married and plans to return to Canada with the baby, after several months in Mexico. As I understand, the child would be recognized as of both Mexican and Canadian nationality. Can anyone inform me of what would be required for the baby to enter Canada and what is required for her to claim Canadian citizenship for the child? Thanks!

1. when the child is born, she would have to apply for proof of citizenship: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/certif.asp
2. Once she has applied for proof of citizenship, she then can apply for a limited validity passport if the child is under 2.

Hi,

My daughter will be born this month in Europe while my wife is in process for her PR under the family sponsorship. I will be aplying for her citizenship certificate at the Canadian Embassy there, I am a Canadian through naturalization. Now for the passport, I want to apply for a limited validity passport. My wife has not recieved an ok for her PR to land in Canada. The Visa Office asked for a few more documents, one of them being the birth certificate of our daughter. We will of course send them all that, but when will they process everything, god knows. Hence I do not realy have a date of travel.

My questions are:
1. Is there an official gouvernment web page talking about the limited validity passport? I just want to have all the details possible.
2. Can I give an approximate date of travel for my wife and daughter? I have a feeling the VO will give my wife a go by march. I am an airline employee so I can hop into any plane of my airline with my family on any day without bying any tickets. I can write an explanation on this to the embassy.

Any ideas? Hints?

Did you submit a certified copy at least? This is what the Citizenship Certificate Guide requires. Originals or certified copies. As for not hearing from them. it takes 5 months to get a certificate plus CIC asks to add another 3-4 months for those like you applying from outside Canada.

Hi All,

I am the adopted child of a Canadian citizen. I have had part 1 of my application for citizenship returned successfully.
A few weeks ago I sent away part 2 of my application to the Canadian embassy in London and a letter of citizenship preparation to Canada. Does anyone have an idea of how long a part 2 application for an adopted person will take to process?
I have just finished university and I am keen to move to Canada sooner rather than later. If the process is going take 6 months + or more, could I apply for a working visa?

Thanks for all the work you guys do. Its great you provide information for less than straight forward citizenship applications!

Kind Regards,

Micky

I really need some help and its URGENT!!!

Background...

I am a Canadian Citizen was immigrated to Canada when I was 1 yr old with my parents. I got my Citizenship when I was 7 years old.
-I have sponsored my wife (Afghan) from Pakistan.
-My wife is pregnant and is due end of January.
-The Canadiam Embassy in Islamabad, Pakistan have had my wife's passport since September with visa ready for issuance.
-They sent a letter recently and had a section at the bottom stating, "Please provide copies of your child's birth certificate and valid Passport when born also contact Case Processing Centre Mississauga for Child Add-On."

I contacted Mississauga for add-on and they said we cant since he will be a Canadian when born. Also they say to send his passport, but he will be Canadian so how can we send them a Canadian Passport. I think they do not know that he will be Canadian?

I am going to Pakistan first week of February and by then my wife would have gotten the birth certificate from the hospital. What else is needed. I can only stay maximum 2 months so I need my wife and son coming back with me. What should I do? I need a temporary valid Passport for my son what is the process and how fast can I get everything?

In order to get the child a passport, you would have to apply for a citizenship certficate for him at the embassy in Islamabad and once you have applied for it, even if you don't have it yet, you can apply for a temporary passport for the baby based on your need to travel.

So first I have to apply for Citizenship Certificate? Where Islamabad or here in Canada? Right After I apply for Citizenship Certificate then I can apply for Temporary Passport? I thought I can apply for Temporary Passport without the Citizenship. Why did they ask me to send the birth certificate and passport of child first?

I can probably get him an Afghan Passport will they give him a facilitation visa on the Afghan Passport if I send birth certificate and my Citizenship Card?

What is the best and fastest way to do this process as I need my wife and my son in Canada 2 months after he is born?

You need to apply for a citizenship certificate first.

If you apply in Canada, you would need to wait until you get a letter of acknowledgement which can take a couple of months. Without this acknowledgement, Islamabad will not know that you have applied. If you apply for the citizenship certificate through Islamabad, they will know that you applied because you applied through them and they could then start processing your facilitation visa or temporary passport right away.

Right after you apply for the citizenship certificate and can prove to Islamabad embassy that you have, either because you applied in Canada and waited a couple of months to get the acknowledgement or because you applied in Islamabad, you can apply for a temporary passport or facilitation visa.

You can apply for a temporary passport without the citizenship certificate but you must have applied for the citizenship certificate already. See, you must apply, you do not need to wait until you have it. First apply for citizenship certificate, then apply for temporary passport. Getting the citizenship certificate can take several months but that is irrelevant because your temporary passport/ facilitation visa does not have to wait until you get it, you just have to have applied for it.

Therefore, I would advise that you apply for the citizenship certificate as soon as you can after your child is born and apply for it in Islamabad and apply for a temporary passport or facilitation visa at the same time. I suppose a facilitation visa would be faster but in order to get that, you would have to have another country passport for your child already.

Okay I now understand what you are saying, but can you please give me the link or tell me all the forms/documents I need filled? My son is about to be born anyday now and I kind of want everything ready and filled out.

Also just to get this straight your saying that when I apply for my son's citizenship in Islamabad at the same time/same envelope I should apply for a temporary passport? What are the forms etc and documents needed for both? How does the baby take photo for passport?

Here are the instructions on how to apply for a citizenship certificate: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/citizenship/proof.asp
and you can find the application forms themselves here: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/certif.asp

You can find Islamabad here: http://www.canadainternational.gc.ca/pakistan/index.aspx?lang=eng&view=d I have not been able to find any info on their website about temporary passports. I do not know if you would fill out a regular passport application for a child or if there is a special application.

You can find passport Canada, info on passports for minors here: http://www.ppt.gc.ca/info/16-.aspx?lang=eng

Kind of a random question. I'm Canadian and both my children were born on Belfast. I applied for my son's citizenship certificate a little over a year ago and should be getting it within a month or two (I was told to expect it to take 15 months). Anyway, I applied for daughter's last week and was wondering since my son and myself already in the system, would her application go any quicker?
