Processing time for ICT work permit

Check Processing Times will give you general Idea about the Processing time for Newly Submitted application.

Check Status will give you an idea about What IRCC is currently processing - The dates indicates the Submission date of your application.





But Two friend of mine have received Passport Request in 15-30 days and they were eligible for GSS (Global Skills Strategy).

Timeline for Friends for Passport Request : Both were eligible for GSS (Global Skills Strategy).

1) Submitted on : February 24, 2021.
Passport Request on March 26, 2021.

2) Submitted on : March 27, 2021.
Passport Request on April 09, 2021.

and IRCC Check Status link is showing they are processing for January 3 and 9, 2021 as of today. (for GSS (Global Skills Strategy))

I applied from India online On March 5, 2021.
I had provided biometrics on March 15 , 2021.
There is no progress after that.

Time line
Online Submission - 8th March
Medical test Submission - 8th March - Upfront for Dependent
Biometric - 25th March - Self
Biometric - Dependent - 18th March
PPR mail - 14th April

One of my colleague have travelled recently Around April 5, 2021.
I am waiting for reply from him but He has travelled alone.
But I believe the information from him will work for you becasue They are mainly concentrating the documents for Primary Applicants.

I believe that you won't need because by looking your application timeline I believe that you must be from GSS (Global Skills Strategy) - The reason I am saying this because it took not even Two weeks to get the work permit.

But best way to check/confirm from your company who has sponsored you for ICT.

IRCC have wrote that :
"The worker does not need to apply for a visa or electronic travel authorization (eTA). We issue the documents they need when we process their work permit application."

Well I from Austin, and the earliest i could also book online was 14 days after. I booked an appointment on 1st April and got one at USCIS Austin for tomorrow 15th April. I am in a mess too, because my US F1 visa expires soon

These timelines are from my colleagues, they have applied from India - ICT GSS.

2 Weeks Processing of Work Permit only applies to GSS Applications. So If you are eligible for GSS then you will receive approval or PPR in one month or so.

But I believe your should have received Medical Update after that - If you have done upfront medicals ? Have you done upfront medicals and provided the acknowledgements at the time of filing ?

I did not do a upfront medical exam.
I did not get any update to do the medical exam after submitting the application.
But i am eligible for GSS as below. Not sure what is happening.
Who is eligible for two-week processing

There are two ways you can be eligible for two-week processing of your work permit application. It depends on if you need a Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA).
If you don’t need an LMIA (LMIA-exempt)
If you don’t need an LMIA, you will be eligible for two-week processing if you meet all of these requirements:
  • you are applying from outside Canada
  • your job is either skill type 0 (managerial) or skill level A (professional) in the National Occupational Classification system
  • your employer has submitted an offer of employment using the Employer Portal and paid the employer compliance fee

As you have not submitted all the documents together for e.g. Medical Certificate is missing and it is not consider as Two Week Processing eligible as per the explanation given in "Get 2-week processing" section.

You should have included Upfront Medical for faster processing. But no worries they will ask you to do medicals ans they will process.

Don't worry Bro it will take some more time (little more as compare to others) but you will get it quickly as compare to other work permits.

Once the worker has the documents and information they need from the employer, the worker and their family members must do the following:


  • apply online from outside Canada
  • submit a complete application
  • include a medical exam (if needed)
  • include police certificates (if needed)

  • submit biometrics results within 2 weeks of submitting the application (if needed)

To qualify for 2-week processing, the worker and their family members (spouse or common-law partner and dependent children) must apply at the same time.

Did you also submit PCC? If someone is filing from US do they have submit PCC ?

How to bring your family members with you

Your immediate family members may be able to come with you to Canada. They can travel to Canada if they meet one of the conditions below:
  • they’re travelling directly from the U.S. for a non-discretionary purpose
