Hi, I had recently applied for my co-op work permit in early march during my first semester and it has been 2.5 months since, no reply. Application is under review and now I am in my second semester of study. I have heard that work permit processing times for PGWP LMIA and etc have reached 8months (probably because of staff cuts, fake applications etc). Are co-op work permits prioritized to be processed quicker? Because by the time I receive my work permit, I will reach the end of my program or my study permit expiry (and also my co-op work permit).

I’ve been through co-op work permit delays too, and it’s definitely frustrating. From what I’ve seen on this and other forums, processing times can vary quite a bit depending on your location and the volume of applications IRCC is handling at the moment. One thing that helped me was double-checking that my application was complete and that all documents were up to date. Also, keeping a close eye on your online IRCC account for any messages or additional document requests is important. Sometimes delays happen because they’re waiting on more info. If your application is complete and you’ve responded to any requests, unfortunately, it’s just a waiting game. The best advice is to stay patient but proactive in monitoring your status. Hopefully, yours will come through soon.
