Another question when you submit the Surrender / Renunciation application form to BLS Vancouver in person, they will take the Indian Passport back and we dont get it back again correct? Or we get it back with surrender certificate?

I think they keep the passport and that’s why on applications it’s written( I have made copy of passport and will not ask for it in future )but let’s wait for someone who happkied from Vancouver.

You will get cancelled indian passport back with the surrender certificate.

So I just got my Canadian passport today and applied for evisa online for India. It asked my indian passport details which I entered. I'm planning to go to BLS and start the surrender process tomorrow before I fly out. I'm concerned if I don't surrender tomorrow I may not get the eVisa.

An update - I went to BLS in Vancouver 10 mins earlier than 8 AM. They open the doors at 8 and give you the token number after verifying documents and asked to wait in Waiting room. Then you will be called sequentially, I was the first in line so I finished the Surrender process, paid it by debit card. I was told it will take 2-3 weeks to get the surrender certificate and they will courier it by Purolator, someone has to be home to pick it up. They will call before sending it out, if I dont pick while travelling they can wait for my email(gave me an email id) to contact them, so that they can send the courier.

Between I was told the paper visa might take 5 days, if I apply today I will get it by Wednesday or Thursday next week before I fly out.

As long as you are early and have your documents in order, it was easy. The lady who helped me was explaining things well and friendly.

I have a question on the evisa application. I just checked my status online and it says 'GRANTED'. When I click "Print Status" button, it generated a Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) PDF file with barcode and my picture on it.
However I didn't get an email about the status, which I should be printing?

I just printed the ETA pdf from the site and the status enquiry page where it says "GRANTED" on the evisa site. Is there anything else I need to print before my travel? Should I be concerned about not receiving the email about the status?

Thank you!

Hi, Thanks for the info. What all documents did you take with you? and did you self attested the documents? Did you apply for the OCI as well at the same time?

I followed the Surrender process checklist listed on the bls site and took the original documents as well. No I didn't apply for OCI.

Apart of Original Indian Passport did they take any other original documents? like the landing paper, Citizenship Certificate, etc ?

Whats the process of applying OCI and average time for processing? Do they take Canadian Passport for application processing ?

So to be clear, they took your Indian passport? And the canceled Indian passport will be couriered back to you along with the surrender certificate?

And do you know if it was possible to apply for OCI at the same time AFTER you renounced Indian citizenship? Or did they say that you need to wait to get the surrender certificate first?
