Lpc and cecnov, thank you for your comments. Yes I am planning to go to a walk-in clinic and get myself tested. However I got a call from the panel physician's office today to let me know that my blood sugar levels are indeed high after the blood test and they have again called me on Monday to do further tests and so that the doctor can talk to me. I tried my best to get some information from the receptionist who called regarding my results but was not provided with an answer if I was found diabetic or not. Calling me for further test might be the reason why. But not sure what further tests they want to do when they already have my blood and urine samples from the first test. I am planning to go to a walk- in clinic tomorrow but again if they perform test tomorrow I would any way have to wait till next week by that time I would have met the panel physician and receive my diagnosis. This wait is killing me. Also that lingering doubt of my PR application being affected after this long wait when I can see the light at the end of the tunnel.
Don't worry that's normal I think. I was asked to come and give a second urine sample 3 to 4 days after I did my first. When I asked the doctor, she said if there's a suspicion that you are diabetic we are required to do it again before sending the results to CIC.

Hi all,

I received my test results from the panel physician today. Urinalysis and tests for kidney are normal but blood sugar level is high. So the PP is referring me to a endocrinologist. But a quick appointment is not garunteed and the receptionist said sometimes the wait time could exceed more than 2 months. This is alarming as we have 60 days to complete medicals. How should I proceed with this? Should I try by myself to get an appointment with an endocrinologist? Should I send in a mail to CIC informing them of this delay?

If you dont mind, could you please share your blood sugar level.
Did the doctor ask for HBA1C test. If yes what was the %.

Urinalysis and creatine was normal for me. HBA1C was at a higher level ...

Did the DMP say they needed the endo's opinion for the CIC medical exam? The IMEI is pretty clear on what tests they need to do, and it seems your urinalysis and serum creatinine were fine, so you should be okay from a CIC perspective. Maybe the endo thing is just for you, and not related to the CIC process.

I just had my meds done today, along with a serum creatinine (I've been pre-diabetic for about a year). So hoping those are fine.

Hi inayatH, the normal blood sugar level should be between 3.6 to 6.0 mmol/L. My result was 10. HBA1C should be between 0.040 to 0.060. My result was 0.07. Urinalysis and serum creatin results are normal for me too which suggests there is no issues with kidneys. My PP also told me that my condition is of early stage and can also be controlled by change in diet and life style.

Hi Spookyb, yes I believe the PP told me that endo's opinion is required for her to send in my results to CIC; at least that is what I understood. Are you stating otherwise? Are tests that have been done till now enough for the PP to send in my results to CIC? I will again call the PP's office and confirm this. I am not sure now. Maybe I was sidetracked after finding out that I was indeed diabetic to understand the next steps while she was discussing with me. I need to check on the IMEI requirements. I think I should find in the link you had provided earlier.

Hi Spookyb, I checked the IMEI for diabetes. In the algorithm providing it shows that if blood sugar level and HB1AC results are high, then the applicant needs to be referred to a specialist (endocrinologist) and the specialist report/results also needs to be provided to CIC. I guess this is going to delay my process. I will send an email to CIC tomorrow requesting for extension on the 60 days time limit as the appointment date with endo is unknown as of now. Not sure how much this will be delayed.

Just took a look at the IMEI as well. I had been under the impression you would only be referred if the serum creatinine was abnormal, but you're right that in the flow chart it shows a referral for abnormal sugar levels. There may be a delay for you, but I'm sure you'll be fine since you have no end-organ damage.

P.S. If you need some assistance in where to start to control your blood sugar, send me a PM.

Hi all,

The latest update on my medical test results is that my blood sugar levels and HBA1C values have been found high suggesting that I am diabetic and I have been referred to a endocrinologist by the PP. As per the flow chart in the IMEI for diabetes I can see that the PP will only submit my results to CIC once she receives the report from the endocrinologist and same was told to me by the PP too. Getting an appointment with the endocrinologist can take even more than 2 months sometimes as my case is a borderline case and would be given low priority. This is over the 60 days time limit provided by CIC to complete medicals. I have mentally accepted that my application will be delayed but I feel I am in a limbo right now as I have to wait for the specialist appointment before anything can move ahead. Has someone gone through this experience? What can be done? Should I send in my current results to CIC suggesting that I need to wait for the appointment and request for extension? Or will they deny the extension and reject the application? Can the reports from my family physician suffice showing the steps I am taking to control the condition to fasten the process. I really have no clue at this point and no where can I find information of situation I am in right now. Any help/suggestion would be greatly appreciated.

Sorry to hear about this.

Do you have any option to take the additional tests in a different city? Try all the options to complete the required tests at the earliest.

Hi EDS, at this point there is no use taking tests again as the results will be pretty similar. My best bet now would be to get proper medication and get my condition under control and then perform a test to show that results are within normal limits through my family physician and send the results to the PP. Apart from that I can try to get an appointment from a endocrinologist from a different city but seems quite impossible as I cannot get an appointment without a referral.

Hi PandFeb2013,

Can you let me know whether there is any range above which the PP will refer to endocrinologist?
I am diabetic for many years now and am worried whether my medical will get through.

Hi venugopalt,

The normal blood sugar level should be between 3.6 to 6.0 mmol/L. HBA1C should be between 0.040 to 0.060. If your results higher than these values then you will be referred to an endocrinologist. If you have not yet done medicals then I would suggest you to get you blood work done through a lab and get it under control if high before your CIC medical test. Best of luck on your PR journey!!

Hi guys,

may be somebody knows the answer here

My blood pressure normally is around 140 - 145; but when I did medicals I was nervous, so it could be higher at that moment (I assume up to 160, but I don't know). I forgot to ask doctor about my blood pressure, and doctor didn't talk with me about heart or blood pressure... My results are already submitted to Ottawa.
Do you think, I can expect request to repeat medicals from CIC ?

Hi grishan, if your blood pressure was abnormally higher then the panel physician would have told you and requested a second test. If it is already submitted then I think it was normal and you need not worry.
