That's not true. The urine test does include testing for diabetes. However, if there are no diabetic complications, then you should be fine after further testing.

Well, there is a whole list of complications that can arise from being diabetic over a period of time. But the one that CIC is most concerned with is kidney failure. The serum creatinine blood test will show them whether the kidneys are functioning properly.

Kidney Failure can be a result of a lot of problems (including diabetes) ! that is why I said "protein in urine" . If your proteins are normal (no sign of failure regarding any part of the body) then you are good to go. There are a lot of complications case by case (mostly for severe cases) regarding any health problems. The best answer can be given by a doctor after seeing your test results. I just answered briefly since this is not a medical forum. ;D

don't worry, having diabetes will not affect u in any way. Immigration is only concern when ur health issue is a threat to public and diabetes is not. not 100% sure though ;D ;D. ur Dr. can explain better . All the best

I hope no.. I'm on the verge of being diabetic(my sugar level is above normal), so I asked the doctor during my medical tests whether it will impact my PR.. She said it shouldn't, she further said CIC is more concerned about diseases that are epidemic/outbreak and others which could cause significant expense to the government in terms of insurance.. She also added that if they are going to reject PR for diabetes then only very few people could become immigrant these days..

I don't think they do drug screen when they do urine test. Simple urinalysis won't include that.

Thank you all for your positive comments. Sleeping better at night knowing it shouldn't affect the PR process. Knowing I might have diabetes is a whole different story. I hope the test results indicate that I'm fine as the doctor commented that I might have diabetes just by looking at the urine sample which I thought was unprofessional as no one can tell accurately just by looking at a sample.

I'm sorry, but this is 100% incorrect for any class except certain Family Class Sponsorships and (I think) refugee applications. A CEC application is not Excessive Demand Exempt.

Read the latest documentation at http://www.cic.gc.ca/EnGLIsh/resources/publications/dmp-handbook/index.asp and the Diabetes specific information at http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/department/partner/pp/pdf/IMEI_Diabetes.pdf

It is particularly important to screen for and identify clients with diabetes as this
condition and its potential long-term effects and repercussion on health (including
requirement for specialized care and treatment and ultimately dialysis or kidney
transplant and immunosuppressive therapy for life) continue to represent a
significant burden and excessive demand on Canadian health services.

Thanks for your comment zardoz. Can you please elaborate on "not Excessive Demand Exempt."?

All immigration applicants that have to take medical examinations are being assessed for two areas. These are simplified and paraphrased as:

1) Danger to the public.

2) Costs too much to the Canadian health system.

It is number 2) that is the "Excessive Demand" test. This is not taken into account where an applicant falls into one of the "Excessive Demand Exempt" groups. CEC is not one of those groups. It's all in the information that I linked to. There is more in the Operational Manuals if required.

Putting a small disclaimer after making a bold statement that
don't worry, having diabetes will not affect u in any way. Immigration is only concern when ur health issue is a threat to public and diabetes is not.
does not let you off the hook. If you were not sure, then it would have been better to have done some minimal research before posting. We all make mistakes... It's how we deal with them that matters.
