For those that recently landed in Alberta, is there a 3 month wait time to get the Alberta health care card? Will be landing in 10 days. ;D
When we applied for my wife's Alberta Health, it only took a few days. That was in November.

Hello Everyone

Just to give an update.

I received an email for passport picture on the 11th of December. And I've just checked ECAS and we have a Decision Made :)

Hopefully it won't be long until the CoPR arrives. Hopefully its been mailed out before the close for Christmas.

Hello everyone.

Status for my husband's application says In Process as of Dec 16th.

How long does it usually take for a status to change from In Process to Decision Made at CPP-Ottawa?

"We received your application for permanent residence on October 8, 2015.
We started processing your application on December 16, 2015."

Thanks.

Hi Jamsham,

No, there shouldn't be any wait for you and the health card. My wife has Alberta health care and we are still going through the application stage. Alberta is a province that will grant coverage before permanent residency is complete.

Can I offer you a piece of advice. Get your documents in order for OHIP right away if you are landing in Ontario. We went to Service Ontario the day after landing and they told my husband that he needed proof of residency in addition to the landing documents. They advised him to get his driver's license and registration. OHIP does NOT come into effect 3 months after you land, it is three months after you provide proof from their three categories. They had told us that the clock started ticking the day he landed so we didn't rush, only to find out later that it does not. Check out the document list accepted by OHIP and get your paperwork to them as soon as possible. My husband took sick unexpectedly and had to be hospitalized prior to OHIP coming into effect so we are on the hook for $7000. Just didn't want to see this happen to anyone if it could be avoided. It might be worthwhile to carry insurance for those first three months to be on the safe side
I applied for my Ontario health card today. I was told that my health coverage starts 3 month after date of landing. This was also confirmed by the printout I was provided as part of the application process. The website is clear what documents you need to apply for your health card. There are three columns and you need a document from each column. Here is a link to the acceptable documents:

For most people the process is about 8 to 10 months from date of application. There are exceptions on either side of the timeline.

Called the Call Centre to ask about the status of our COPR, seeing as how it has been three weeks since eCAS went to DM and we haven't seen anything. The fella was friendly but basically gave me no information whatsoever. "Well, I can't see the decision but I imagine they're just preparing the paperwork and once something is sent you'll see it online." He never even asked for the application number or my name, just the type of application and when we applied.

Ugh, so frustrating. :(

Nothing was posted online that COPR was sent to us, but we were able to get an answer from a CS rep over the phone that it was. I would try again and be more persistent since they just use the cheapest regular mail option with no tracking to send it.

Nope, no need if you aren't bringing anything. Lots of people already live in Canada so it would be kind of silly to have this as a requirement. I suppose you could cross the border and buy something to import though.
Hi on this topic.... I live in Canada already as a temporary worker. When I moved here, I temporarily imported my car and belongings with an expiration date (on that temporary importation) tied to my work visa expiration. I assumed that when I land, I'd need to complete the B4 form for all that stuff again since I'm now permanently importing it (even though nothing is leaving my apartment in Montreal). But It seems from your post that I may not have to do anything??? Any help would be appreciated!

This was my experience too. I was told I'd get coverage beginning January 5, and I landed October 5. One thing I'm not so sure of though, is I applied for OHIP on December 23. I asked when I'd receive the health card, and she told me it would be "a couple weeks before that" (ie, a couple weeks before Jan. 5)... which technically I already WAS a couple weeks before that date lol. I assume with holidays there will be some delays. Anyone know how long after applying you receive the card?
