Hey all. When the COPR comes through and you go to land, I already have all of my stuff up here since I was visiting, do I still need a B4 form if I have nothing to claim?
Nope, it's not a requirement.

I just finished the RIV process (except I haven't licensed my car yet, just because I'm waiting to switch over my FL license to Ontario) so I can help. The 72 hour rule is a US rule. You must leave the car in the US for 72 hours then go to their export office at the border. They DO enforce this rule, so as inconvenient as it is, just do it. They WILL ask where the car is coming from. I made the mistake of ignoring the rule the first time and they wouldn't allow me to export it without leaving it there for 72 hours first. Total waste of a trip. I personally dumped my car over the border at the Niagara Falls casino parking lot for 3 days, LOL. The actual export process took only a couple minutes once she was satisfied I had the car in the US; she just checked that my car was the one I applied to export and sent me on my way.

It is a hassle. I spent $50 on the daytime running lights cheapo part (it was like $130 at Canadian Tire, I got it from an independent parts store) and my mechanic charged me $80 to install it. Other than that, I met all the requirements (restraint seats, French stickers, etc). But I still had to pass the safety and emissions tests which required a lot of work done on my car. Plus the import fees, the trips to the border... I've spent a good $1500 on the process at least so far, and my car is only worth $2000.... x_x If your car is old and not great like mine, you'd be better off selling it.
I wish I would have sold my car before leaving the US too. Mine is worth around $4000 CAD, a 2006 Kia Rio. The RIV was $195, daytime running lights cost me $250 or so and after doing the safety inspection, I found out I had to replace all the brakes too, $1165! And then, of course, Ontario charged me $160 to register the car. Lucky for me, I passed the emissions test. I'm pretty sure installing the daytime running lights broke my car. I have to do some weird trick to get them to shut off after I turn off the car. It took them a week to figure out how to even do it.

Has anyone been approved for Common-Law recently through CPP-Ottawa? What was your timeline like?

I received an initial request for docs (generic batch) in October, which we replied to, then we got an 'ultimatum' email on Dec 2, basically saying "send us the docs within 7 days that we requested 45 days ago OR ELSE...", which was scary because we had already sent the docs in. I haven't heard anything back from CIC going on 2 weeks now.
We're common-law and my timeline is to the left there. << I don't think it makes much difference on timelines between being married and being common-law. Now that we have all this PR stuff situated though, we are planning a wedding for this summer! :D It's a huge relief, though I still have a lot of work to do to get back to a normal life again after this whole process. I'm trying to find someone who will hire someone with only nursing experience and no nursing license. It's tough! Currently trying for PSW and medical secretary jobs. We'll see how it goes.

Oh, one more thing.. about the PR cards. The day I landed, it stated the processing time for new PR cards was 52 days. Do I go by that or will mine take 71 days too? Confusing..

My guess is the increase in processing time is because of the added pressure of approved refugee applications that need to obtain PR cards.

I would have thought so too but I could have sworn I heard that they have an entirely separate department for the Syrian refugees (even separate from other refugees).

I can't help but wonder if you were scammed? It's awful convenient that they did a safety inspection and your brakes just happened to not pass. It's a 2006, how could the brakes be that messed up, just the pads?

When I imported my car I did the light conversion myself, it took about 15 mins. I see some videos about it on youtube, it doesn't look too much different for the Kia, but who knows maybe for some reason your Kia was a PIA, lol.

Congrats to all who for the COPR’s and DM’s this week! Certainly not the case for me! My husband’s application is 8 months in and still has not been approved. I am so frustrated. My health is in bad shape right now because of this, I get major panic attacks and piled up with bills. What I do not understand is that it’s supposed to be an easy application. My husband is an American and no hang ups whatsoever. sigh. this is just so insane!!!!

I hear you. I'm so stressed out. If things go wrong with my application I'll be devastated. I panic constantly over it. All I can do is basically distract myself since I'm living here on visitor extensions so I cannot work to occupy my mind (other than housework!) Once the application is out of our hands it feels sort of like you're just helpless. It's true I guess, we sort of are. So we can only try to distract ourselves since ti's out of our hands at this point in the process anyway. Wish you luck and I hope you get a DM soon. 8 months is still in the normal range so at least that's something good.

Yup, there was a lot of crap wrong with my car too that needed fixing (don't ask me what, I don't speak Car language xD) and it was just such a big expense. I'm actually still sweating bullets over here, my abstract has yet to come in the mail from Florida which I need to get my Ontario license and then get plates, insurance, etc. The problem is that my safety and emissions and RIV stuff all expires around/on Christmas day. So I'm literally running out of time or else I have to do everything over again. I actually woke up in the dead of night yesterday and couldn't fall back asleep because I'm having such anxiety about it. Horrible.

And lmao, one of my stupid daytime running lights is already burnt out. That's what I get for buying a cheapo aftermarket part. xD

Have you ordered GCMS notes to see where your file is, its really case by case scenario. I have seen some straightforward us applicants get approved in 3 months to over a year, it seems that they sometimes process files out of order as well. In my case it took over 9 months to see DM. Think happy thoughts, most of the time your file is sitting in a pile collecting dust, when they open your file the process generally moves very quickly possibly less than 4 weeks for a DM.
