the Canadian parent have to be present to apply for the visa?
No. My wife applied for my son in September and she is going to getting her PR in November and I am here in Canada.

You need to apply for a citizenship certificate first.

If you apply in Canada, you would need to wait until you get a letter of acknowledgement which can take a couple of months. Without this acknowledgement, Islamabad will not know that you have applied. If you apply for the citizenship certificate through Islamabad, they will know that you applied because you applied through them and they could then start processing your facilitation visa or temporary passport right away.

Right after you apply for the citizenship certificate and can prove to Islamabad embassy that you have, either because you applied in Canada and waited a couple of months to get the acknowledgement or because you applied in Islamabad, you can apply for a temporary passport or facilitation visa.

You can apply for a temporary passport without the citizenship certificate but you must have applied for the citizenship certificate already. See, you must apply, you do not need to wait until you have it. First apply for citizenship certificate, then apply for temporary passport. Getting the citizenship certificate can take several months but that is irrelevant because your temporary passport/ facilitation visa does not have to wait until you get it, you just have to have applied for it.

Therefore, I would advise that you apply for the citizenship certificate as soon as you can after your child is born and apply for it in Islamabad and apply for a temporary passport or facilitation visa at the same time. I suppose a facilitation visa would be faster but in order to get that, you would have to have another country passport for your child already.
So Leon since Canadian High Commission in Islamabad, Pakistan already sent me a letter saying when child born send copy of birth certificate and original passport. My son was born yesterday and he will have his birth certificate ready in about 3 days. He can also get an Afghan Passport in about 5 days. Will there be any problems if I send his Afghan Passport to get the facilitation visa. Is there any form that must be completed.
Also do I have to apply for citizenship prior to getting a facilitation visa.?
Is there any fee that needs to be paid if he sends his Afghan Passport, such as Citizenship fee, etc?|
Does he have to do any medical tests?
Also when can I expect the faciliation visa to be sent back to my son and how long time does he has before it expires?

Thanks

I do not know if there is a particular form for a facilitation visa. I have never seen one. I do not think there is a problem with Afghan passport and facilitation visa. I do not know if you have to apply for the citizenship certificate before you can apply for the facilitation visa. You will at the very least have to prove your own citizenship. There should be no medical tests. I do not know how long Islamabad takes to issue a facilitation visa or how long it is valid for. Please turn to the embassy with your questions.

I am currently sponsoring my wife... we have a son that was born abroad and he is currently residing aboard. My wife and I were married before his birth therefore he is a Canadian by heritage and does not need to be sponsored. He is listed in the sponsorship as a dependent however because it is required.

In the sponsorship instructions it says that all dependents need a medical exam. Does our son still need a medical exam or is a Canadian certificate and limited validity visa suffice?

You don't need to include the boy in the sponsorship application form. Get the Canadian passport for the boy instead.

I visited my MP yesterday and asked her about my sitution. She called her contacts and they told her I must apply for citizenship and then passport. It will take 1 year? I then told her how that is possible because if that is the case and I get another child before 1 year that means I must wait another year and so on.

So I am confused here. Since Islamabad stated once child is born please send birtch certificate and original passport and add him to sponsor list. (I believe they do not know I am a Citizen and my son automatically becomes one). How do you think if I send the copies of the birth certificate, my citizenship card and my son's Afghan Passport and ask for a facilitation visa. Would they give it? Or would I have to send a Citizenship form with it?

Your son should not be listed as a dependent on the IMM0008 because he is a citizen already. He should only be listed on the additional family information form. If you listed him on the IMM0008, I suggest you fill it out again and send to the visa office stating that you made a mistake there.

He does not need a medical exam. He needs either a foreign passport and a facilitation visa or a Canadian passport. Have you applied for his Canadian citizenship certificate yet?

Child benefits would probably work as the requirement is that you are living in Canada with your child.

Health care could depend on the province. Some would insure the child as the dependent of the parent who is already insured. Others might ask to see the child's proof of citizenship or say that the child as any citizen or PR who moves to the province should wait 3 months for coverage. Just phone the health care in your province and they will tell you what their policy it.

My son is not listed on anything as he just got born on January 12, 2013. The Canada Visa Office has taken my wife's passport since September 2012 and have not given her a visa yet as they were waiting for the child to be born. I did not apply for his citizenship as you earlier said to send it same time with everything else. Can you direct me towards the link for citizenship and how much do I have to pay if anything at all? Also I will be sending his Afghan Passport along with the citizenship application, his birth certificate and my citizenship card to prove he is Canadian. Should I send a letter stating that I have sent his Afghan passport so he gets a facilitation visa? What else should I do.

Hi Friends,

I am an Indian Citizen, born and living in India. My father was a Canadian and thru him I got Canadian Citizenship card when I was 2 years old. Now I wanted to pursue post-graduation in Canada. Since I have the Canadian Citizenship card, I think I can apply for Canadian Passport and start applying to Canadian Universities.

Since India doesn't allow dual citizenship the moment I receive my Canadian Passport, what will be my status in India till I reach Canada? My new Canadian Passport will not have India visa, should I apply for visa after receiving the passport? I am wondering if Indian immigration officer stops me at the airport and questioned about my stay in India, I don't have anything to show them other then my birth certificate and school certificates.

Looking forward your reply.

Thanks,
Shan
