I am applying for my husband who lives in Colombia. We have a 20 month old son who desperately needs his father around and mommy too. Traveling alone with my son is super difficult as well so tired of being alone in all this and was hoping to get some piece of mind. Last friday we were super excited to have an officer from the embassy call my husband for a request for a medical exam. He did his first session this morning and his second on friday. This is the second medical since the first one expired in september. We sent our papers in february 4 2012 and had our sponsorship approved may 9th 2012. Got selection certificate for quebec june 15 2012 and now in bogota. We are hoping that our paper is close to finalization with the request for a medical but with all the posts on here im feeling doubtful. Also his police certificates have not been done either. What should i think? Where do i go from here? Will there still be a request for an interview? am i doomed to spend my child's 2nd birthday without his father (february 7th)
Please help need some reassurance. :(

Hi there,

There is not much you can do right now other than waiting for a feedback from the embassy. At some point, they will call or send a letter to let you know the procedure to get your pay for your police clearance. I know on the cic website, it tells you how to do it, but if I were you, I would wait because when you do things on your proper initiative (other than calling/meeting with your MP in Canada), they will mostly get mixed up and it can have serious consequences on your case as in lost information. It happened to me and my wife (the sponsored). I also live in Québec.

Tell yourself even though it's hard that everyone has to pass through this process and there is an END and that it's very satisfying to pass through this hell. My wife and I grew together in a relationship!

If you have any questions, do not hesitate ..as well as anybody dealing with Bogota...if I can help, I will :)

Feliz dia!

Jenn: si tu as des questions, tu peux m'envoyer un message privé! Entre Québécois, on s'entraide parce qu'on a une étape de plus compliquée lol (CSQ)!

So i received a reply from Bogota finally stating that my husbands passport was mailed to him, with information on the decision made on Oct 17. As of yet he still hasnt received it. Although i asked, i did not receive a reply in regards to how they sent it. Maybe Somebody on this forum who has already gone thru the process can tell me. Do they send it by regular post or courier??? This is so nerve wracking knowing that the decision on our visa has been made, but still not knowing what the decision was. I have my fingers crossed that we will know within a week if my husband will be on bis way to Canada. I will keep you all posted. Good news for all considering that this means that the Bogota embassy is actually processing applications.

hey esims2003 thats good news :D. He'll be getting his visa withing a few days. the VO uses Servientrega which is like a courier, they provide good service. I was told that they are doing background checks on my husband. he sent the Updated schedule A back on April, I heard they're lenghty. so hopefully we'll be done soon.

Hey sridoy,

Just checked eCas, and the status is now In Process.... I think our cases are pretty similar? Im guessing my husband will be getting an email soon for another medical as he did his June of 2011.. I was hoping they wouldn't do that as I read a post about how medicals can actually be extended a few weeks or months if the visa is going to be issued soon, something like that? Anyways.. I guess theres no way we can get a head start? You need the order form from the embassy right?

How to obtain a police certificate - Colombia
Do I need to provide a police certificate when applying for permanent residence?
Yes, you need to provide a background verifications certificate. However, do not apply for the background verifications certificate before obtaining a file number from the visa office.

How or where do I obtain one?

If you live in Colombia (both nationals and non-nationals)
Once you have submitted an application to the visa office, the visa office processing your case will provide instructions to you on how to obtain the background verifications certificate.

If you live outside Colombia
The easiest way to obtain a background verifications certificate from outside Colombia is to ask a person living in Colombia to request the certificate on your behalf, following the instructions sent to you by the visa office.

You can also request the certificate yourself by following these instructions:

You must pay a processing fee of the equivalent of COP$60.000 at the current exchange rate per person, to be deposited to:

Intermediary Bank: BANCO INTERMEDIARIO CITIBANK N.A.
Swift Code: CITIUS33
ABA Code: 021000089
CHIPS Code: 0008
Beneficiary Bank: BANCO DE OCCIDENTE
Banco de Occidente Swift Code: OCCICOBC
Account No.: 10950229
Final Beneficiary Name: RISK MANAGEMENT COLOMBIA S.A.
Final Beneficiary Account No.: 223005463

You will receive a deposit slip as proof of payment. There should be one deposit slip per person.

Once you have made the deposit, you must send a scanned copy of the deposit slip to: aplicantes @ procesosec.com

You must also submit the following information to the bank:

•For Colombian nationals:
the applicant's full name, National Identity Card Number (Cédula de Ciudadanía), visa file number, and the name of the visa office that is processing the application.
•For non-Colombian nationals:
the applicant's full name, Colombian Foreign Resident Identity Card Number (Cédula de Extranjería) or passport number, visa file number, and the name of the visa office that is processing the application.
•If a payment is made for several applicants:
a list with the names, identity document numbers, and a copy of the deposit slips for each person.
A copy of the deposit slip together with the applicant information listed above must be scanned and sent by e-mail directly to the visa office processing your case. The e-mail title must state “Background verifications” and the name of the visa office that is processing the immigration application.

The response will be sent directly to the CIC office processing your application. Please ensure that the name of the visa office is included on the payment slip as per instructions
Hi Ibague,

I am a CEC applicant under CPP-Ottawa, I just came across your discussion trends and want to ask about getting Police Certificate from Colombia. I also followed this instruction from the CIC website and wire transferred from my bank here in Canada an amount of $35CAD (equivalent to COP60,000) last Sept.21. But I just got an email from the visa office that they have not yet received the Colombia Police Certificate, it has been 35 days. How long does it usually take for the Colombia PC be sent directly to the visa office? Is there a way to contact Risk Management Colombia to ask when they will send the Colombia PC to the visa office? Thanks a lot!

hello Sampvic,
i am not really sure how long it takes for the Police certificate to get to the embassy. I have heard that it can take anywhere between 4-8weeks. Did you mail a copy of the receipt you got from the Banco de Occident to the embassy? did you keep a copy for yourself too? maybe you can use that to make some equiries for the police or write directly to embassy and give them the a copy of the receipt from Banco de Occidente

what happened with our case is my wife recieved a letter from the embassy with instructions to pay Banco de Occident and forward the receipt to the embassy, She paid the requested amount in Colombia. At this stage we are not sure if the embassy recieved her PC or not. we are just assuming they got it.

I really hope so!! Hopefully we can have some happy couples reunited in December. If not, I think it'll be double the wait time as we all know vacations in Colombia always seem to run a little longer….

What is your timeline like? For example, when did you first apply and has the passport been requested yet?
