what color is the credit card? so u have total of 3 cards now? debit, credit, scene?

bec. right now i only have 2 cards.

It's the white one, the Scene VISA card. I think they gave it to me because there's no annual fees. And the Scotia rep also emphasized on paying bills on time in case I decide to settle in Canada later on, in order to build a good credit score. Usually, unemployed students CAN'T get a credit card at all, but they said since we are international students, we are allowed to get a $500 unsecured credit card without a job. I heard that after a few months of paying your bills on time, they might increase your credit limit.

Yep, I have all of the Scene cards haha! The black one and the white one will arrive within 2 weeks through the mail.

I think there are many factors to consider in choosing a bank :) I mainly chose Scotiabank because of the proximity to my home, the availability of ABM's on campus, and the perks I get from having a Scene card hehe Although TD would've been my next choice since the branch nearby is open on Sundays hehe

Scotia Bank and get their scene debit card

You like watching movies, spend via scene debit card and you get so many points that you won't ever pay for a movie again

i asked the store employee, he said there is a little increase when using card. true?

is it 'cause of tax? i'm interested in knowing this. let me know :)

Based on my experience, Yes some of smaller stores charge extra when you pay with debit or credit. Because they are also charged by the Terminal company (The pinpad thingy.lol.) to use it per transaction.

Although most stores make enough profit to not need to charge their customers or they have a tie up with companies.

For example, I used to work in a big Canadian food chain and we only take debit and mastercard, no visa and no amex and it was because mastercard had a tie up with them.

Personally I think he should have advised you about the charge before hand to give you a choice to pay cash instead or something.

i have applied now for credit card in scotiabank , they asked if i would want a cash-back card or scene movie credit card.

so i chose cash-back, good choice or not?

Scotia Bank is the way to go.

The most important thing with cards in canada is there is a usage fee so you can only authorize have a certain number of transactions per month. Student accounts tend to give you moree to play with, maybe 20 transactions per month. S

Scotiabank offer their students unlimited free transactions, so if you use your card or account a lot, this is the one you'll want to get to be on the safe side.

cash back, u get like 0.5% or 1% of money spent by card every year.
scene credit card, u get scene points by using the card.

anyone can reply, which is better option, cash-back or scene credit card?

I chose a scene movie card. I can change to cash back after six months when I have more credit limit. Both cards are good, you just get free points in Scene Movie card. You get to watch atleast two to three free movies a month. And in cash back, you get around one percent of your total spending back, that would be around 40 dollars a month. So same thing I guess. Cash Back card is beneficial more when you have a higher credit limit.

do you think i should have chosen the scene credit card for 4000 points, then after 1 month, will change to cashback card? :D

and i dont think u can get 2-3 movies per month w/o scene credit card, coz right now, im using my debit card, only got 250 points in a month. :(
