Based on my experience, Yes some of smaller stores charge extra when you pay with debit or credit. Because they are also charged by the Terminal company (The pinpad thingy.lol.) to use it per transaction.

Although most stores make enough profit to not need to charge their customers or they have a tie up with companies.

For example, I used to work in a big Canadian food chain and we only take debit and mastercard, no visa and no amex and it was because mastercard had a tie up with them.

Personally I think he should have advised you about the charge before hand to give you a choice to pay cash instead or something.
Yes.. Xactly..
Thats standard procedure.. But mayb he didnt care or didnt know or assumed that u knew already..

I chose a scene movie card. I can change to cash back after six months when I have more credit limit. Both cards are good, you just get free points in Scene Movie card. You get to watch atleast two to three free movies a month. And in cash back, you get around one percent of your total spending back, that would be around 40 dollars a month. So same thing I guess. Cash Back card is beneficial more when you have a higher credit limit.
40 dollars? Really?

Wont that mean u need to spend atleast 4000 dollars a month by ur card?
How does that work?

no frills doesnt accept "VISA" credit card, but they accept "MASTERCARD" credit card, so the hunt continues... ;D

Surprised you guys didnt get a unsecured card from TD.

TD gave me a 1000$ unsecured credit card the same day I landed.

A year later now, and it's at a 2500$ limit.

Honestly, one of the best banks out there.

TD doesn't offer any kinda credit (unsecured to Students or temp residents) effective 12.02.2014.

Thanks Hell911.

With this kind of card that has unlimited debit transactions can I buy some stuff over the internet? I am planning to buy a bike over there, an expensive one.

TD used to, not anymore. RBC also doesn't and soon you should expect all banks not offering unsecured credit (be it credit card, line of credit or anything for that matter that involves risk, their tolerance rate will be 0% for such accounts soon).

source is from within TD. You can try giving them a call, students or temp residents already obtained card and got their credit limit increased are lucky ones. not anymore though.

Cheers!

Scotiabank's Scene debit card is not visa/mastercard. so you can't use it online AFAIK. (correct me if im wrong guys)

if you can get credit card, then you can use this card online. (scotiabank doesn't have mastercards)

i have scotiabank's visa CC and capitalone's mastercard CC. im using both online and on local stores.
