Just resharing my parents' timeline

After IRCC receives PR application, it assigns a number to that application.
The file number starts with “XG”. This is considered a temporary application number. It confirms that IRCC has received the package and have created a file in the system.
After eligibility review and when processing formally begins, IRCC assigns a permanent application number. This number usually starts with “G” (without the X).
The applicant can use this number for all future correspondence regarding the PR application.
That doesn’t make a lot of sense especially since others have reported that IRCC has communicated that they may not start rolling out their 1 time initiative until late 2026 if not later. Until there is a concrete plan on how IRCC plans on running their 1 time initiative (and whether they actually have the capacity to follow their own plan) how long it will take for protected people and refugees to secure PR is impossible to predict especially applicants from 2025.
