In Canada you need to provide an address when buying a SIM. If you order online, you need to still call them and provide all your personal details including address in order to activate the SIM.
Best is to have someone buy a SIM for you providing your name and address. This is what I did. Otherwise just wait for your quarantine to be over, getting a SIN number as soon as you land isn't that necessary. Service Canada centres have started opening and you will be able to get a SIN number same day if you visit them post quarantine. Hope this helps

I heard that currently Service Canada centers are only issuing SIN to those who have a job offer. The only way others can get a SIN is online as the SIN centers at the airport are also closed due to Covid. Is this true?

I am not sure what you meant by “lengthy procedure to get PRTD once you intent to go back to Canada”

What i understand is by the time i intend to go back to Canada “my PR card should have already been mailed to a canadian address which would have already mailed it to me”

R u implying that i can actually re-enter Canada by PRTD even if i have never actually received my issued PR?

Can a border officer insist on me receiving my PR by myself as an assurance that i am settling in Canada instead of mailing it to a Canadian address? And if this happens and i leave Canada without receiving my PR by myself, can i later renter Canada by a PRTD based on the fact that my status is permanent resident but i have not physically received the PR card ?

Finally, what do you mean by “ follow up measures since they have my departure record” ?
you mean a penalty for soft landing? Like what for example?

1) You need to google what PRTD is
2) PR card can't be mailed to a foreign address. It may be confiscated at custom if you ask people to mail it to a foreign address.
3) There is no official penalty for doing soft landing. But they do have your departure record and no one knows what they may do to people who does soft landing.

Reading the full text of the latest IRCC directives, IRCC are telling us that for our extension to be approved,. We must satisfy

i. Cogent non-discretionary reason for traveling at this moment, examples as listed in the text.

ii. That your home country is not subject to exit controls.

So if there is still an international flights ban in your home country, that might be a reason not to grant extension. Confused with this directives

It's not a matter of extension, it's a matter of allowing you to fly in.

Hello everyone,

I have a COPR valid till mid-September and flights to Toronto are available from my current city (Dubai). However, like many on this forum, I'm not keen on moving permanently yet (or even taking a flight for that matter) and IRCC has made their stance clear on 'soft-landings' clear (although how they plan on enforcing it is beyond me).

I will be ready to move permanently in six months. However, I'm unsure of what to do at present. Should I let it expire, wait for six months to let the world come to some semblance of order and then move permanently or risk the soft-landing. From testimonials of people who have been soft-landing, it seems like the immigration officers are not inquiring about this yet. Somebody bought it up that they can look at your travel records and create problems later, but that seems like a long shot since i'm sure they have better things to spend their time on.

Any advice would be appreciated.

I am in the exact same position. COPR expiring 25 Aug. My family and I are currently in Singapore and flights are available but it does'nt make sense to go just to comply with the COPR date. Our plan is also to wait for a few months to let things settle down, try to get an internal work transfer and then move.
Soft landings seem risky now given a clear direction from the Canada government not to come to just complete your applications. Its prudent to keep things as they are now and not take any undue risks with your job and health.

The date till which it is extended is not given. EE profile just states your medicals have been approved with the latest date on which they were approved. For. eg: My medicals and visa expired on 10/06/2020, Now my EE profile states you passed your medical exams on 8th July 2020. thats it. At that time i had just raised a cannot travel webform in June 2020. My VO is Ottawa. Now on 1st Aug i have raised ready to travel webform. Waiting for further updates. Hope this satiated your query.

Yes, travelling to settle is allowed at this time. Please check if you are exempted (CoPR issued prior to 18th March and things like that).
