Wanted to share some info around this update: https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/news/notices/ircc-resumes-processing-1-july-2020.html

I called IRCC today and asked whether the OWP submitted with the Inland PR App was considered a paper work permit application and, thus, is not being processed. The agent put me on hold for a few minutes and then came back to say that Inland OWPs are considered part of the Permanent Residence application, NOT a separate paper work permit application. Therefore, they would fall under this part of the IRCC's update:

"IRCC also continues to process study permit and work permit applications submitted online and permanent residence applications, to the extent possible. Paper applications for visitor visas, study permits and work permits will not be processed until further notice."

Now, we still have no idea what "to the extent possible" means, and IRCC call centre agents don't always have the right info, but this is what I was able to get.
This information seem correct having seen OWP January 2020 applicant approved today. Thank you for the effort made @Wasp21

Great news! Shows things are moving. I really wish I had been smart and applied for the OWP at the same time, but ah sure.
@russ6970 please do your OWP online this time, it is simple as IRCC is not accepting paper applications. Upload your duly filled OWP form, your PR/biometrics and OWP receipts( for IRCC to know is part of your sponsorship app) marriage certificate, international passport, your sponsor passport with any other relevant docs. This will enable your application quick and easy to monitor and you will have to wait to link.

I don't have my AIP yet.
Not sure what you need AIP for, i thought you already sent in your sponsorship applications December without OWP. If you're sending a fresh OWP and your status is still legal then you don't needs AIP.

States on the website that you have to apply on paper if you don't have AIP. Online is only for people with AIP. Unless it's been changed

Hi,

January applicants are getting their OWP approved, it looks like December applicants are skipped or they will pick it randomly and approve. I sent my application on December 31st and yet to get biometric instruction letter and OWP. But Ircc customer rep confirmed that my biometric fee is attached with my application and no need to pay biometric fee as mentioned in the biometric fee reminder email

Regards,
Venkat

Another January OWP approval message below, the OWP approval might have been done on Friday July 3rd. Unless CPC Edmonton is open 24hrs.

Hope everyone is doing well.

We got the open work permit email yesterday!!! Things are finally moving!! Best of luck to the rest of you.

Once we get the owp in the mail, what do we need to do a part from applying for sin? Are there other things we will need to do ?

Timeline : Application sent 09/01 received 11/01 AOR 06/03. Owp returned March 7th (insufficient funds) sent back 27 March, owp 4th of July.
