Hi,
I am new to this thread and need help in clarifying below questions.

I have an AOR and CEC inland, PR application in process. Currently, I am on implied status for Visitor visa. (unemployed) and in Canada. I have new job offer which starts next month.

1)After starting the job , and I have valid work permit status can I apply for BOWP? (When work permit validity is less than 4 months?)
2)How long might it take to get approval of BOWP?
3)* After getting BOWP , can I work for any OTHER employer. (I will be on a Closed Work Permit tied to specific employer).
4) Is BOWP valid until I get a PR approval?

Thanks in advance!
Sorry but the way you describe your situation is very vague. What do you mean by "implied status for visitor visa"? Did your previous work permit expire and you applied for a closed work permit? Is that what you mean?

Also, why would you want to work for another employer considering that you will just start working?

Hi, sorry about that.
What I mean is, my earlier work permit has expired. I am not working now . So to maintain my status in Canada , I applied for a visitor visa and since I am waiting for their decision I am on implied status.

Since I am unemployed, I was looking for jobs and I got one which will start end of March. However, it is a short contract job which is less than 4 months. My employer is filing my work permit for that duration and It is a closed work permit. (I cannot work for any other employer than this).

I hope this explains my situation better. Let me know. Thanks

That's much better, thanks.

Did you apply for PR through express entry? It seems to me that considering the time since you applied + the time you'll spend as a visitor + the 4 months on a closed work permit, you'll will probably have your PR application approved by the time your closed work permit expires. If not, I don't see why you couldn't apply for a BOWP.

So to answer your questions:
1) I'd say yes since there will be less than 4 months left on your work permit, you will have valid status as worker and be physically in Canada as per (https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/work-canada/extend-permit/bridging-open-work-permit.html).

2) It's currently taking about 84 days as per IRCC's website. (https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/application/check-processing-times.html) Go to work > work permit extension (new employer).

3) A BOWP is an open work permit so YES.

4) AFAIK, It's valid for a year. But since most EE applications are taking on average 6 months you would be safe.

Quick question for someone who’s been mailed the physical copy of the BOWP. Please how many weeks did it take between approval and document arrival? I’ve been waiting for mine since it was approved on Jan 11 and still haven’t received it....

Not sure if someone ask before.

The BOWP is expired 1 year by the time you applied or 1 year after my post-graduate work permit expire?

Technically yes or no, however you can show the proof of approval if anyone ask. But the copy of physical letter is needed to have for update the SIN and health card.

Unfortunately no you are no longer eligible. You need to have a valid work permit to apply for BOWP
