I’m applying for a Bridging Open Work Permit (BOWP) as the principal applicant (PGWP holder with AOR under Express Entry PNP), and I’m including my spouse’s SOWP extension in the same application. We both live in Canada.
In the application form (IMM 5710), there is a question: "Are you accompanying a family member who has status in Canada?"
Should I (the principal applicant) answer Yes or No to this?

Thanks in advance!

Hello, what did you answer for this question? Did you declare your spouse as accompanying or non-accompanying in your PR application?

Hi everyone, I really need some clarity about BOWP eligibility.
My current status is PGWP and my husband is on a Spousal Open Work Permit (SOWP).

My husband has created an Express Entry profile and our CRS score is 471. Our work permits will both expire on January 10, 2025.
My consultant is advising my husband to apply for a Bridging Open Work Permit (BOWP) and include me as well.
However, as far as I know, we cannot apply for a BOWP without receiving an ITA and submitting a full PR application (AOR).
So my questions are:
  1. What happens if my husband applies for a BOWP without having an ITA or AOR?
  2. If we apply now, before our permits expire, will we both get maintained (implied) status?
  3. Will we still be allowed to continue working while waiting for a decision from IRCC?
  4. What would be the best and safest option in this situation?
I’m really confused and want to make sure we don’t risk our status. Any advice or similar experiences would be appreciated.
Thanks in Advance

Change consultants. You are right you don’t qualify for a BOWP. What is your NOC? Your spouses? Do you know French? CRS score is too low for most PR pathways. Have you and your spouse done everything possible to increase your CRS scores?

Thank a for reply. My spouse NOC is 10022 and mine is 62100. I am learning France language but I don’t know how long it will take. Also do you think if my spouse apply for PNP that will increase the chance of getting PR ?

What is her score? What province do you live in? Chances of getting an ITA before January are likely very low and your NOCs don’t fall under in demand occupations. What are your plans after your WPs expire?

We didn’t check yet what will be the score for PNP, my consultant said my husband can apply in foreign workers steam. I am kind of confused. My husband is under SWOP status and he applied for express entry. I was thinking if work permit expires then i will apply for visitor records. I applied for MBA but its for September,2026. But even though I do MBA I am not gonna get another PGWP.
2nd thing i thought what if my husband do MBA then he will get PGWP and I will get SWOP.

He may be able to apply but that doesn’t mean he has a chance of being selected. Do you mean he can apply if he leaves Canada after learning French? Your WPs are expiring very soon you should have started exploring your options a year ago. Where did you apply to do an MBA? Does it actually make sense to do an MBA? Staying in Canada as a visitor as of January, even if you eventually get a study permit, may not be possible and it also makes no sense to remain in Canada as visitors without a high chance of getting an ITA fairly soon. You should calculate your CRS scores. Do you have valid language tests? What province do you live in and would your employers be willing to support a PR application if possible for you or your spouse? Are your employers willing to apply for LMIAs and then you apply for a closed work permit? A closed work permit also not guaranteed and you have around a month until your WPs expire because IRCC doesn’t work at full capacity for the two weeks around Christmas and New Year’s.
