Hello Daniel. Thanks for this bit of information based on which I informed the IRCC about my change in marital status. I got my COPR in august and got married on 30th October. I informed the IRCC couple of days back and got a reply that I have to return my passport and COPR to cancel (this really freaked me out). They mentioned I will receive further instructions from MY CIC. I am just wondering if I have to wait for further instructions from them through my CIC or do I need to return the passport and COPR for them to proceed further. What happened in your case? Awaiting your reply. Many thanks in advance.
You need to return the passport and the COPR first and after you will receive instructions.

Thanks Darko.
My primary location was India. But not I have relocated to Brussels. How can I find out the process to return the passport and the COPR?

Hi

Hi Sanskar,

Yes i have informed them on the email address mentioned above (which i figured out myself, you are lucky to be helped by the kind people here :).
I got reply within a week requesting for few forms to be filled by us both, my wife's documents which includes PCC, passport and photos and also a signed letter which explains more about the history of our relationship.i assume there must be a good amount of people scamming the Canadian government with fake marriages and such.
You should inform them after you get married. Also, note that they give you 1 month to submit all documents so try to be prepared.
Cheers and all the best brother :)..Congratulations for your marriage :)
Hi Daniel,
Thank you so much for the detailed explanation. I have few more questions. It would really be great if you can answer them.
1. Did CIC asked you to return your passport and COPR?
2. What all documents of spouse is required to be submitted? Any other documents other than you specified above.
3. Do I need to inform CIC in specific no. of days about my marital status after I get married.
4. Any idea how long it will take to get the PR for my spouse and myself after informing them?
5. Can I inform them about my marital status change when I land in Canada?

Thank you so much...

Hi Sanskar,

I sent it through VFS itself, Same way as i had submitted for stamping of Visa..I agree that it isn't clear and they don't explicitly mention that you need to return passport immediately or not..But I thought that since the visa is no longer valid and needs to be cancelled anyway, so i should return it. They asked me to submit written letter of explanation why i'm sending the documents, copy of message i received in my CIC account, my original passport and COPR.

Thanks & hope it helps
Daniel

I urgently need some clarifications..Hoping someone here who has successfully done this can help

1 - Updated Generic Application Form IMM 008 - The message says " for you and your spouse or CLP “ . Does this mean we have to fill two separate forms?..If yes, does she have to include me under Dependants section? as they have mentioned to include your spouse in this section?

2 - Additional Family Information IMM 5406 - The form mentions at the top that me and my spouse have to fill our own copy of this form. In this case, on one form I would be the applicant and would enter my mother and father’s names while on the other form she would be the applicant and would mention her father and mother details. Is this correct ?

3 - Schedule A Background/ Declaration IMM 5669 - The message says “ A completed and signed by your spouse or CLP”. However the guide on the CIC Website says the below :-

Schedule A – Background/Declaration (IMM 5669)

Who must fill out this application form?

This form must be completed by:

you, the principal applicant;
your spouse or common-law partner (whether accompanying you to Canada or not), and
your dependent children aged 18 years or older (whether accompanying you to Canada or not)

4 - Supplementary Information for your Travels form IMM 5562E - Message says for your spouse or CLP. However, the form says “The principal applicant must complete this form “. Can you please confirm if I should fill this form as the principal applicant ?

One form and include spouse details as dependent in the same form.

2 - Additional Family Information IMM 5406 - The form mentions at the top that me and my spouse have to fill our own copy of this form. Two forms have to be filled.
One - Primary applicant, spouse, father and mother.
second - Dependent applicant (About to add spouse), spouse(Primary applicant), father and mother.

3 - Schedule A Background/ Declaration IMM 5669 - The message says “ A completed and signed by your spouse or CLP”. However the guide on the CIC Website says the below :-

Primary applicant submitted this information with Express entry profile submission - so no need to do it again.
Spouse/Dependent - has to submit the form.

Schedule A – Background/Declaration (IMM 5669)

Who must fill out this application form?

This form must be completed by:

you, the principal applicant;
your spouse or common-law partner (whether accompanying you to Canada or not), and
your dependent children aged 18 years or older (whether accompanying you to Canada or not)

One form - Principal applicant has to fill the complete form again (Primary applicant fills section "a"), Add spouse/dependent applicant information in section "b".

Hi gowthamp,

Thanks for this.. Two forms are clear to me now (IMM 0008 & IMM 5406 ) but there are mixed opinions about the other two forms. A lawyer in Canada whom i happened to speak to had the following to say :-

Hi Arun,

You (the principal applicant) will be required to update your forms (since your marital status has changed); this means that you will complete a New “Generic”, “Additional Family”, “Schedule A” and “Supplementary” form.

Your spouse (your dependent) will ONLY be required to complete the “Additional Family” and “Schedule A” form.

Note: For the “Additional Family” form, your spouse will be the “principal applicant” on her own form (you will be her dependent); you will the “principal applicant” on your own form (she will be your dependent).

I hope this clarifies your concerns.

Kindest regards,

Hoping someone can give a concrete answer.

Hi Gowtham,

I have copied below exactly what i received in my CIC account message -

Forms:-

1. Updated Generic Application Form for Canada IMM 0008 for yourself and your spouse or CLP
2. Updated Additional Family Information Form IMM 5406 for yourself and your spouse or CLP
3. A completed and signed by your spouse or CLP Schedule A Background Declaration IMM 5669
4. Supplementary Information Your Travels form IMM5562E for your spouse or CLP

The wordings make it difficult to point to exactly what they require and probably you have gone through this dilemma as well.
But it is clear now. Many thanks for your help and all the best :)
