Tried now, it says high volume of calls. a year ago atleast there used to be a wait. But now it disconnects after saying there is high volume of calls. And to try again, it needs to go series of steps, like press 1, 3, 4 and 5 and then we hear calls are busy and hangs up! If you havve tried recently let me know what options do you select to get connected? Or else if you have done this like more than 6 months ago then it was not how it is now.

Better go with Proper Photo studio where they take pictures specifically for all Passport or Visa related ones. If you have nothing close by try in CVS or Walgreens. But not Walmart or Costco.

Hi everyone, super urgent question. I am an Indian citizen currently in the US. My common-law partner and I have received the PPR email. But, we'll be travelling to India on July 29 (30 days from now) for our wedding, and the travel plans cannot be postponed by more than a week or two. Do you think it's a good idea to send our passports to Ottawa now, or request for an extension? The problem is that we've planned a long stay in India, and will be back only the first week of October. So, we'd have to request for an extension from 30 days to about a 100 days. Is that okay, or is it too risky?

Better to request for an extension if its not possible to extend your travel dates to India. If you have atleast 6 to 8 weeks then you are good. If everything works fine you may get it in 3 weeks but you never know.
Also not sure if they can give you extension more than 90 days. You need to talk to IRCC or send an email or send a webform.

fyi:
Calls are very busy, i am unable to catch hold of them from past one week. Haven't received response for our email sent on June 23rd. May be try all these ways , either of them might work out for you.

Has anyone who had their passport delivered from the US to Ottawa around the 17th of June received their passport and/or any update?

I sent my passports to Ottawa and they reached on June 20. Haven't seen a response from IRCC or any activity in the portal.
Are they overwhelmed again or is it just due to holidays ? Being without passports for a longer period is very concerning.

EDIT: Typos

Hi Everyone, This post was extra useful to me over the past 3 weeks.

I'd like to share the timeline of my passport

  • Got COPR invitation mail asking me to send passport to Ottawa CPC on May 17
  • Sent passport to Ottawa CPC via FedEx on June 12, it reached out June 14
    A few notes about this
    • Even if you send it to 365 Laurier, FedEx will deliver it to Stevenage (this is normal, don't be alarmed)
    • Other than FedEx telling you it was delivered you won;t get any notification from CPC that it was delivered (I did not)
    • I sent my passport, 2 Canadian spec photos (don;t get your photos at Walmart or CVS, get them from a photo studio that knows what the Canadian spec is, otherwise you will have to send new photos), the filled out Annex form, a return envelope (all associated invoices and bills are part of the fedex labl and in the pouch where the label is attached)
  • After 2.5 weeks my application status changed to approved
  • FedEx picked up passport the next day and it was delivered to California the day after (July 6, today lol)
FedEx address cannot accommodate the full CPCO address given in the passport request letter. So use this instead

CPCO PR VISA US PR/TR PASSPORT
365 LAURIER AVE WEST
OTTAWA, ON, CA, K1A1L1

Also give https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/application/account/where-submit-passport/cross-border-shipment-instructions.html a read. It has some instructions on what to fill out on your fedex shipping label (disregard the portion about not including a return envelope though, FedEx reusable envelopes have changed and are now bigger than before, so you can actually include a return envelope in the envelope you send over)

My passport was received on June 18th and still awaiting any kind of update. Honestly, looking at experiences like this and news like this, I feel we have a long wait ahead. Brace yourselves.

Canada began issuing 10yr passports in 2012. Their renewals, along with people planning summer vacations after 2 year Covid hiatus. Outages don't help either. Talk about being in the wrong queue at the wrong time.

Obviously, I am super-worried! Staying as a non-immigrant in the USA without a passport is precarious.

Please share if anyone has any good update/news. I'm on the verge of cancelling my upcoming travel plans (for 07/28).

Your passport is your property, so you can ask for them to return it immediately, or legally, you can sue them. I had similar issues with the US Embassy in India - they held onto my passport for a month, but when I demanded it back citing the above, they returned it within 5 days, with visa stamped. However, I have already written to CPCO-Ottawa about 10-12 days ago (using the webform) that I need my passport to fulfill my immigration obligations in the US, but no success so far.

Also, wondering whether the people that haven't received it back have more than one person on the application.

I received the approval in the portal but the document is only valid till Sep 15. Is this normal ? I thought you got a year to exercise the landing ?
I am currently in USA and it would be very difficult to travel on such a short notice.
