I thought for insurance maybe. I also thought you might need it when switching your license over.
I wouldn't worry about it. When we came back a few years ago I was told by a few insurance companies that because I had been out of the country for 12 years I would be charged as a first time driver, even though I'd driven in Ontario for 24 years before going to Korea. I called around a little and had no trouble finding companies who had no problem with the fact that I had been away for that length of time and charged me the normal rate for someone with my driving experience. Same for my wife who had no driving record here. I wouldn't be too concerned.

Hello! quick question..
just going through the checklist a final time before sending off our application later this week.

For common-law sponsorship, do I (the sponsor) have to include number 18 on the checklist (proof of employment)?

I know that for common-law there is no minimum income requirement so we dont have to include number 19.. but just want to double check about number 18!

Just wondering is it normal to not hear from CIC regarding the application once all documents and such have been sent in?

They did require us to re-send the criminal background check in November, but it has been all quiet since then.

That's only a few months of silence, I wouldn't be too concerned. If you order your GCMS notes that will give you a better idea what they've been doing with your application.

Yes. You must include it.

Did not even know that was an option!

Thanks!

hello!

I am just about to send my application off to the mississauga office ! (Going to send it tomorrow afternoon)

Where do I specify that it is an outland (outside of Canada application)?

I want to apply outland so the processing office is in Manilla... where do I specify this?

Also, is it suggested to do registered mail?

Thank you !

Well, first of all make sure you are using the right application package. There is a difference between the outland and inland application forms. Secondly, one of the forms, I can't remember which, will have a question along the lines of "Which visa office will process this application". You should have chosen "Manila". Send it all off to Mississauga, they'll figure it out from there.

Wait, I think I found out ... I believe that you select the processing center on the payment form? However, I paid online so I just have to include the receipt printout.. so should i just write Manila Processing Office on the front of each envelope?

Thank you!

I think it was last year sometime that CIC actually removed this question completely. The choice on visa office is entirely up to CIC anyways based on either the citizenship or current residency of the applicant. Most likely the app will go to Manila, but if they are overloaded or for any other reason CIC may decide to process it at CPC-Ottawa.

AS long as you use the outland application package and did the country specific forms (which are for outland only) CIC should know it's an outland application. If you're making a cover letter you can also write OUTLAND on it, as well as on the envelope you mail it in. It's very rare they would accidentally process an outland app as inland (though it has happened a couple of times).

Thanks so much! ill just write "Outland Common-Law Sponsorship" on each envelope!

Hi everyone,

We sent our application for spousal sponsorship January 4th by Courier to their courier address in Mississauga (from Busan, Korea). We have heard nothing yet. Is this a normal occurrence, or should I be calling to be sure it is in their hands (even though FedEx said it had arrived)?

Thank you

Although I sent my application about a week later, mine arrived on January 15th (according to Canada Post).. however I heard from a friend that it can take up to a month or more before hearing anything from CIC or getting a number or anything like that. So I wouldn't worry yet!
