Hi everyone,

I just landed last night in BC on April 5. The officer did not take my photos of the new size. Would you suggest that I should maybe promptly mail them the pictures?

Thank you!
You should have photo on your COPR , also when you app for PR you suppose to send 8 photos together with your mail app for PR, if you do that and photos are up to photo standard you should be fine , if not you can re send photos , 2 photos ( on one of them must be studio address and date and your name and date of birth) together with 5455 form, copy of your signed COPR , and on one paper explane why you sending extra photos .

When I landed today at Niagara Falls, the officer told me it takes 6 months to get the PR card. Is this normal? I checked online it says 54 days, and people who landed at the same place recently were told 6 weeks. I was very happy when I did my landing, but I was waiting for a long time at the Canadian immigration, and started thinking about something unhappy about work, it must have shown on my face, and I wasn't showing as excited as most people when getting PR, this officer obviously noticed it, and he didn't seem to like me.

Don't stress, you will be fine and if your photos are ok etc it will not be 6 months. Folow PRC processing time and add up to 6 weeks. Good luck .

That might be a bit risky as you'd probably have to prove that you weren't working after your permit expires (and it's hard to prove a negative) - if your permit has expired by the time you land. Don't forget, they could still deny you your PR at the border, it's just rare as all of the checks have been done by then by IRCC, but if they suspect that you have been working illegally, this would be grounds for refusal.

You might get your COPR and land before your permit expires but the timeline is tight. Check other threads to see in what timeframe people are getting their passports and COPR back after sending their passports to Ottawa.

If you think that your permit will have expired before you get your COPR, what I would do is apply for an extension to your permit which would give you implied status if you have applied before the expiry of your current permit. At least you'd have the transmittal document or the courier document to show to the border guard to prove that you applied for another visa and therefore maintained status in the form of implied status. This way you can also still work too. This will cost a couple of hundred dollars but once you have your PR, you can cancel your permit extension application and receive a refund.

Tricky case. This is just my opinion so it will be interesting to see if anyone has other ideas.

DO NOT land on an expired status. Apply for a renewal before your work permit expires so that you get implied status. Once you have landed call CIC and ask them to cancell your work permit renewal application and issue you a refund. This would take a month or two to happen but this is the correct way.
I landed on implied status but the border agent never asked me anything about my Work permits. I am sure if I were on an expired status, he would have simply deported me as I would have been an illegal resident.

I had to wait three weeks from the day I sent passport to Ottawa to get it back and the shortest wait time is two weeks. Therefore, you will have no chance to get your passport back in a week. You must never land with an expired status!!!
I totally agree with others members suggesting you to apply for renewal before your work permit expire. Once landed, cancel the application and apply for refund.

Thanks very much guys! I was thinking about it as well but wanted to confirm. So I'll apply for extension and after landing I cancel it.

Apply online so that your application is submitted right away and they can view proof of submission on their screen right away.

Me and my wife got PR card today (7th April). Landed 6th February 2016 at North Portal. PR card issued on 1st April.

Probably finished all the waiting game with CIC.

That's exactly 54 days! Congrats to you and your wife.

Quick question, is there any action you've taken after landing to get the PR card or just waiting?
