Hi.

I've been travelling back and forth to Canada for the last 7 years as a tourist to be with my wife.
In August, I finally filled a PR application (spouse), expecting it to take close to a year to complete.
I just received the notification that the application has successfully completed (no CORP letter received yet thought).
I'm thrilled, but not ready yet. I'm supposed to visit Canada during 3 weeks at end of this month but planned to definitively move to Canada in June due to business imperatives in my home country.

What's not clear to me is the PR activation / landing process.
  • If I receive my COPR before my next landing in Canada, is the PR automatically activated, which means next time I want to come back, I'll either need my PR card or a PRTD ?
  • Same question if I receive the COPR while I'm in Canada for 3 weeks.
  • If I leave Canada before I receive my PR card through mail, can my wife sent it to me through courier abroad so that I have it when I come back ?
Is this PR card simply dropped into the mailbox without any ID required for it's retrieval at the post office or something like that ?
Thx.

Yes for all the questions.

For clarity: some here confuse the allocation of a COPR# on the tracking site with 'getting' COPR. You need to receive the actual COPR document, which is usually done through a passport request (where you submit passport to a visa application centre). The existence of a COPR# without the document is meaningless, just their internal admin step.

1) If you're from a country where you need an immigration visa (eg you need a visa and not an ETA), you'll have to get that visa first. The COPR 'landing' is not automatic when you arrive, but it will be the default - ie. you could tell them you don't wish to do the formal procedures just yet. (Although there's really no reason to delay it, nothing wrong with soft landing). If you are from an ETA country, you'll need the COPR to land.

Note though - if you need the visa/copr together, it probably won't be possible to get it inserted into your passport before the end of the month, or at least will be quite tight.

2) If you get the passport request while in Canada, you may be given the option of doing a virtual landing (told to notify them). If you will be in Canada for only 3 weeks, my advice is DON'T do this. It will take an uncertain amount of time and you need to be in Canada when you do it.

Instead, either just wait and submit when back in home country OR (if time limit tight) just advise you're travelling and will submit after you return.

3) Yes, your spouse can send it to you.

But I repeat - I rather suspect you won't be able to get the COPR and all back physically before you depart at end of month.
