To keep PR status you need to be physically present in Canada for 2 out of 5 years. This can be at the start, at the end, or in smaller chunks of time over the 5 year span.

There's no problem leaving immediately, but make sure to come back with enough time to get the 2 year requirement done, and allow for unforeseen circumstances. If you go away for 3 years initially, you're essentially trapped in Canada until you can meet the residency obligation.
The rules have changed. http://rabble.ca/news/2015/06/here-are-new-requirements-canadian-citizenship

It is 4 years out of 6 years now for citizenship application, plus 183 days in last 4 years.

These are the rules for citizenship. To keep PR status, you need to be in Canada for 2 out of 5 years (in aggregate). You can then apply for PR renewal for another 5 years.

I thought if you can see status using COPR then your PR card might already processed. Seems now everyone who landed can also see their ECAS using COPR. Seniors can throw some light
There's no proof that this is the case, just a theory. We tested this theory out back during the processing of our applications over on the PNP forum to see if advanced payment of the RPRF had been received. After mailing in the receipt, we tried logging on with the R-number, and eventually we were able to do so. The only thing that could mean is that CIC had received and processed it, otherwise it would not register in the system against your name.

So I'm pretty sure that if you can now log on to ECAS using your CoPR, it means that someone has created an application for something using this number (in this case it would be your PR Card since there's nothing left to wait for).

I'm not certain that it means that the card is actually finished with processing, but at the very least the processing is underway.

There are exceptions to the 730 days in Canada requirement as set out in IRPA Section 28 (2)(ii) and (iii). The days spent outside of Canada are counted as In-Canada days if:

the PR is out of Canada accompanying a Canadian citizen spouse;
out of Canada while employed on a full-time basis by a Canadian business; or
employed by the federal or province governments posted outside of Canada.

It doesn't matter - the reason for checking is to see if your CoPR number has been attached to your details on their system. In theory this will only happen after the PR card has started processing. If you can log on with your UCI, but not your CoPR, chances are your card is still waiting in a queue to be processed.

Thanks
