Exactly... I already had a trip, got travel document same day at visa office in Vienna. They very really nice and aware of delays.

All, please hlep. I got the PPR, trying to solve how to send my passports and pre-paid envelope. But this is another issue.

My question is regarding travel. Once I land Canada, can I give them a friend's address and travel back to my home country just to wait PR Card and health benefits to be active?

I learned that my wife is pregnant last week and she needs healthcare. So can she stay back at home until we get social security benefits in Canada?

It depends on the province, but most of the time you need to reside physically in the province for three months before you get healthcare. The clock doesn't start ticking when you become a permanent resident. Canadian citizens who move to a new province have to deal with this problem too, it's not specific to immigrants.

Your plan for the PR Card is fine though - your friend can forward the card on to you. But to get healthcare, you're both going to have to make the move here.

I wonder if one day someone at CIC or the government will realise how utterly stupid this system is? We've just become permanent residents who are supposed to have a set of rights similar to Canadian citizens. But until we get our PR cards in the mail we can't travel without a travel document, and that document can take weeks to obtain so short trips are impossible. I want to go on a 3-4 day trip to the states, but I can't plan it because the system won't allow for it to happen.

Sorry, just ranting. Hopefully we get good news soon!
Dear Quick, someone wrote end of January having same landing dates....time to sit tight.

I know. It just bugs me. If I was as bad at my job as CIC is at keeping people informed, I'd probably be fired.

Got an email from CIC today (subject was "A message from Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada").

A message from Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada

Beginning March 15, 2016, visa-exempt foreign nationals will require an Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) to fly to Canada. U.S. citizens are exempt from the eTA requirement.
If your study or work permit was issued on or before July 31, 2015, you will need to apply for an eTA if you wish to enter or return to Canada by air on or after March 15, 2016.
If you received your study or work permit on or after August 1, 2015, you were automatically issued an eTA with your study or work permit.
For more information, and to apply for an eTA, please visit Canada.ca/eTA.

Thank you,

Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada

This doesn't mention that I'm now PR, nor does it have any information relevant to my situation whatsoever. Thanks CIC... way to stay on top of things... :/

Well depends on case. I had all my flights booked and went to embassy. You can try in VPC, but will take longer. You are able to get it in country that you will be travelling from, but allow yourself few days at least...

Re: Waiting for PR Card after landing - add your case here

Hi guys,

I was wondering and curious to know, does CIC determined the date to receive PR Card when we landed or the latest update?

I would appreciate for the reply.

Re: Waiting for PR Card after landing - add your case here

Since the landing date. It couldn't be the latest date of address update because in my case, the address was updated on the 9th of Nov (as per CIC records) while I got the cards on 20th Nov. I landed on Sep 28. At that time, the processing time was 42-45 days plus 1-3 weeks transit time in the mail. I got mine on the 53rd day.

He is not asking about adress update he is asking about the processing times posted by cic on their website I guess.
