Hi there,

We are "In Process" on ECAS!

Today was the first time I have seen it, but it says that it went in process on May 28 (for anyone who'd like to update the spreadsheet.

Great timing as we sold our home and move into our temporary pre-Canada accommodation in two days!
Congrats! You are on the move!

We are 2 weeks behind you so I'm keeping my fingers crossed...

We need some advice about private health insurance / travel insurance. We're flying to Canada soon and my husband does not have his PR yet, but we're planning to wait out the process there. What insurance did you buy? A lot of UK travel insurance companies seem to operate on the assumption that you're a UK permanent resident with plans to come back.

Quick advice is needed (and much appreciated), because I've left this to the last minute assuming it wouldn't be an issue to purchase travel insurance and because I was hopeful that he'd get his PR at the very last minute. Overly optimistic, I know.

Thanks!

Never mind - crisis averted. We purchased one-way travel insurance for 21 days for around £60. That's not a long period but it gives a little breathing room and hopefully we'll be done this process by then. If not, then we have more time to look into private insurance once that policy ends in a few weeks.

My understanding is that spouses are entitled to health coverage in some provinces. I have coverage in Manitoba...my husband was mandated to buy family coverage as he is married even though I am not in the country! Having said that I have not yet tried to use it!

Have a look at some of the threads on health - there's a bit more info there - but I think it does depend on which Province you are moving to.

Thank you - I didn't know that. Kind of wondering if the £60 was worth it now... but I suppose it's useful to have the coverage in the meantime and just in case. I looked at the Manitoba Health website to make sure and it just said that "visitors" weren't covered, so I assumed that applied to him.

I'm a Canadian citizen going back to Manitoba (though I've been in the UK the last two years); if he could just be covered under Manitoba Health that'd be great news. We'll definitely look into it more when we get there. Thanks again!

I think it probably was worth it...I just re-read the guidelines and to be honest I'm not sure why I have coverage as it does say visitors are not eligible in Manitoba & as I say, I haven't had the need to try and use it, so it may be that it wouldn't work anyway!

Oh the complications!

Just got this from the CIC:

Dear Mr Boden,

Thank you for your recent e-mail.

Please be advised that our office is not currently on strike and there has been minimal impact to our processing times. I can advise you that your file is currently awaiting review from an Immigration Officer, however your file is now near the front of this queue.

Yours sincerely,

They said routine background checks going on..
Didnt give any time frame as usual.. So idk how long more..

Also i asked about the strike and here is what they said:

"Please note that the strike action has had no affect on processing times and that currently no personnel from our office are on strike."

We enquired and just got a reply saying the app is awaiting review. No 'near the front of the queue' sadly :(

you should contact your Canadian MP. You're almost past the processing times, and at least they could enquire about what is going on.
ALways worth a try!
