my wife is already in Canada as a student. I applied SOWP

Hi. We got our stamping for SOWP, but it's valid only until Oct 25, 2021. And we are still waiting for TRV for our kid. As kid is the dependent, I am thinking they will provide stamping only until Oct 25, 2021. That too if we can get the passport letter by then.

If we got lucky and somehow visa for our kid before October, can we travel and later extend our visa from Canada or should be start over again from the beginning.

VFS is Chandigarh. It has been 4 months , still no further update

People are waiting since August 2020 for medical request.

There are others who also receive PPR's. Recently people who applied from India for SOWP in Jan, Feb and March 2021 received PPR. However, seen many waiting who applied in 2020.

No clue how they are issuing updates.

In these times, I guess it is all luck, they pick randomly. If we see processing times, its 20 weeks as of now. We can either go for upfront medical or request by IRCC. I have not gone through the upfront medical because it may happen they take 1 year or more for processing. In that scenario, medical will expire. But if its definite that they will give result in few months, then upfront medical can be done.
