Hello,
I became a permanent resident on October 10 2018. I was told at IRCC Office that I could already travel to Germany without my PR Card and i have to apply for a Permanent Resident Travel Document.

Now in the application it says i have to show I will be able to meet the 730 days for the residency obligation. Since I have only been a permanent resident only for roughly 40 days it is impossible for me to have met the requirement for 730 days. So do I have to show them that I will be able to comply with the residency obligation?

Furthermore the document checklist specifies that:
At a minimum, you must provide 2 pieces of evidence that can show residency in Canada in the 5 years immediately before the application, such as:
- employment records or pay stubs
-bank statements
-CRA Notice of Assessmentin the 5 years before this application
-School or Employment Records
... and a few other documents

Do I have to send any of this or will they see that i meet the residency obligation because i just became a PR and havent been able to accumulate the 730 days yet?

I would rather fly to the US and cross land border with the COPR than applying PRTD.

Hi

You don't need to show anything. The fact that you are a brand new PR shows that you are able to meet the RO.

Apply for it. Instead of all those things, just add simple LOE. There you will explain, that you have recently become PR resident and you did not get your PR card yet, but you had to travel to Germany for some time. that's it.
Because you are so fresh, all they will do is to check when you have landed. So it will be very simple for you. Good luck.

Thank you guys.
Should i add a copy of my copr and the paper that mentions my sin number?
Does anyone know how long it takes for them to issue the prtd?

You can add your COPR if you wish you. However they can easily identify you according to your UCI. Good luck.

Hi All,
I'm in the exact same situation. I became a Permanent Resident on Oct 16th 2018 and I've already booked the ticket to Italy (my home country) to spend 1 month with my parents. When I landed at Niagara I spoke with Canadian officers and they told me to apply for the PRTD before coming back to Canada. Basically I'm planning to land in Rome and go to the Canadian Embassy and give the documents. I was puzzling about the 'residency obligation' but I agree with your point that we are 'fresh' PR so it should go well.

1. You have to use the VFS visa application centre in Rome: http://www.vfsglobal.ca/canada/italy/

Yes, planning to go there once I will land in Rome.

No, your card will be expired. You will need to either apply for a PRTD or cross the land border from the USA.

There is a very good chance that you will be reported and have your PR status taken away. You have not been in Canada for over 10 years.
