The dependent does NOT have to be a student if he or she was below 22 at the time the sponsorship application was submitted. The only requirement to remain a dependent is to remain single. This is clearly indicated on CIC website, and I don't know how some people still get confused about this.

This is because cic does not seem to be following their manual these days. Why they are refusing dependents over 22 years for visas, stating that they were studying just to stay as dependents....I mean if its their condition that dependent over 22 has to be continuous student and single, it is obvious that who has applied over 22 will continue his/ her study to get visa.....how many students here in Canada change their study when they are not satisfied then why this is an issue for students who have been sponsored......

Hi Suin;

Could you please tell me your timeline?
Mine is :
Applied: Nov/05/2008
Transferred to local VO( Ankara): May/14/2012
Started the processing your file: Dec/07/2012
and still nothing after that :(
Hi fae,

There is a separate topic about the sponsorship via Ankara's office:

http://www.canadavisa.com/canada-immigration-discussion-board/ankara-parents-and-grandparents-sponsorship-applications-t135734.0.html

Probably, you can get more answers and idea about the timeline in Canadian Embassy in Turkey

+1, that should be good enough till someone else starts quoting cic statements (probably next week)

I am talking specifically about dependents who were below 22 at the time of application. They don't need to be studying continuously to remain a dependent. Their age is locked in at the time of application.

Congrats!! Mr. Kenney, on reducing the wait times from 36 months to 56 months.
IMO, processing (wait) time at ND LVO went up from 36 months to 56 months because most of the cases processed at ND LVO during 2012 were those which had received Stage 1 approval in 2007,2008 and part of 2009 and were already transferred to ND LVO. These application times range was between 42 months and 66 months. Mean point of this comes to about 54 months.

And may be, the number of months posted on CIC website is wrong? CIC staffers do make mistakes, really, Ask User828.

:)

Hopefully your wait time logic is correct but I don't think its a mistake as they have been quoting 54 months in response to MP queries.

My brother sponsored the whole family. I am a dependent child, but at the time of the application back in june 2008, I was 20 yrs old. We got the letter on Nov 2011 asking for Documents and that first stage was approved ans sent to the local visa office.

My question is, I am going to be 25 yrs old in a month, I have not been enrolled in full time school. I do know about the 'lock-in' however I am scared that the Visa Office my ask for full-time school since I am over 22, will they ask for this?

When they ask for proof of full-time school, is it the Local Visa Office or the CPC-M who ask for this requirement.

I appreciate your answers.

Hi friends,

Can anyone please advice how to handle the following situation? My parents PR visa application was approved by CPP ottawa on 18 March 2013. They promptly submitted there passports for visa stamping via VFS to high commision in New Delhi. Its been more then 2 months and neither New Delhi, Ottawa or VFS have any response for the status of there passports.

I am extremely anxious and getting impatient. Any idea on how to proceed would be appreciated. I have already ordered GCMS notes and yet to receive them.

Thanks

What is your ECAS status showing? From what I have checked, the Visas are approved at Ottawa but printed at New Delhi and that is where the delay happens. I have similar scenario. My GCMS notes show visa has been issued at Ottawa in Oct 2012 but not printed yet..Hopefully yours will go faster though.

Thanks for the response.

E Cas shows decision made since Mar 18, 2013. What can be done to get the visa printed at New Delhi? My understanding was the CPP ottawa was made to help process straight forward cases and get the visa issued at local office.

You seems to be very patient. When did your parents submit the passport?

Thanks

If they ask you for proof of continuous full-time studies, print the information about lock-in of dependent age from the CIC website, and send it to them. They cannot deny your application if you were below 22 at the time of application and you have not got married since then. It doesn't matter if you continue to be a student or have your own business after the application - you would still be a dependent for immigration purposes.
