Thanks for your concern.
1. I normally check my spam emails and I don't think I missed out on any email from cic.gc.ca or ircc.
2. Yes when I log into the application portal it shows that the was submitted and I also received a confirmation email to that effect.
3. Do you know any dedicated phone number I can call IRCC on as you suggested.

Does anyone have an idea of what could be wrong or the cause of this prolonged delay. Am getting really worried and wondering what to do.

Finally AOR received today Feb 8 2023 after several calls to IRCC. First they claimed they never received my application but when I provided my confirmation email and payment receipt number, the agent said he will escalate my case, and he requested I should give 2 - 3 weeks for them to investigate. After several back and fort, I got the AOR today.

Do we know who gets interviews and who don't?

Mostly seen for people whose application was stuck for a long time like 1.5+ yrs, gave test outside Canada, been outside Canada for a long time after submitting application. Just a high level criteria. Could have multiple other criterias too. Also not everyone in the criteria will face interview. So it's pretty dynamic.
