A34 refers to Section 34 of the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act (IRPA), which deals with inadmissibility due to security grounds, including:
  • Espionage
  • Subversion (e.g., against democratic government)
  • Terrorism
  • Membership in an organization involved in such act
However, in many GCMS notes, “A34” doesn’t necessarily mean the person is suspected of these things. Instead, it can simply mean the CBSA is conducting an in-depth security screening, especially for nationals from certain countries or if there’s a trigger (e.g., travel history, dual citizenship, past immigration issues, etc.).
I suspect it’s because of my nationality which is Yemen. I been in Canada since I was 19 and I’m 27 yrs old and never went to military nor held government positions.

Hi there,
I applied for SINP non express entry PR. I am on PGWP and I’m thinking about the BOWP work permit extension, cause it will expire next year. I understand that it requires NO employer restrictions on the SNP nomination letter, but mine has ‘Yes’ under employer restriction. In that case, if I need to extend my work permit , how could I proceed?

I just wanted to know what the possible options are for extending the work permit.

Thanks in advance !

Unfortunately if you have employer restrictions on your nomination certificate, only option is closed work permit. For that your employer need to submit job offer in employer portal and pay $230 compliance fees . You have to request new WPSL if previous one is 6 months old . Once you have closed work permit, you can't work another job .

Thanks in advance !
Since your nomination is employer-specific, you can apply for a closed work permit using:
  • Your SINP Nomination Certificate, and
  • A valid Job Offer Letter from the employer listed on the nomination, and
  • A work permit support letter from SINP (valid for 6 months from date of issue).

Hi @Miss bee i hope you are having a good weekend. I hope you can answer this question if you dont mind- is it normal to receive pal but not medical ( blank on GC ) how long does it take for it to be updated? and also would you happen to know why the BCG shows as not applicable. Thanks!

Yes, it’s not uncommon in some cases to receive a Pre-Arrival Letter (PAL) before your medical information appears in the GCMS notes or your online portal. Sometimes, even though the medical has been completed and passed internally, the system takes time to reflect that in the client portal or GCMS due to processing lags or staggered data updates. Regarding the BCG (Background Check) section showing as “Not Applicable,” that usually means the specific type of background verification (like enhanced security or criminality checks) hasn’t been initiated or is not required in your specific case, at least at that stage. It doesn’t necessarily indicate a problem—it can just reflect how your file is being routed or processed based on risk level, stream, or office handling it. If your medical has already been completed and sufficient time has passed, you can also try confirming its status via the IRCC webform or through GCMS notes if you haven’t done so recently.
