Hi guys. I have a question. I am traveling (flying) to US next week. I have a US visa. I dont have a Canadian visa to re-enter Canada. I heard I can re-enter on my valid work permit. I actually read this on CIC webpage a long time ago. But I can not find it now.

Can someone confirm this? Or help me find the written statement on the website?

Thanks!!

from what i know, you dont need to have a valid visa re-entering canada IF youre travelling by land (car, bus, ...)
but if youre flying, im afraid you will need your visa when you fly back to canada unless youre from a visa exempt country

You may need visa if traveling by plane / train / bus. Note that the problem is not with canada immigration, but with the commercial carrier - they may refuse entry to the plane becuase visa is expired and work permit clearly says not valid for travel.

If traveling by private vehicle, work permit will suffice.

Called CIC all centre and they confirmed I can re-enter Canada from US with valid work permit even my canadian visa is expired.

You can re-enter even by flying. There is a thread on this on this forum. But I can't find it. But called CIC and they confirmed that I can and even they sent me an email now to bring with me.

Good to hear.

As I said, cic / cbsa won't deny entry. But the airline company needs to accept your work permit as a valid travel document. Call the airline and confirm.

Good luck with your landing!! Congrats a lot.

Just called the airline as you suggested. They said as long as the CIC says its ok, then there won't be any issue with the airline.
So all looks good. Travelling to US next week:)

Congrats to everyone who got PPR and the passports back. I am really getting scared, am not sure why they are sending me the PPR. Hope nothing like security or criminality is holding it up. I have sent all the PCCs and also RCMP for my spouse they requested. I have conformed with CIC call centre that the medicals results have also been received. I am also wary that the holidays are coming up which might delay the processing time.(I do VO are human and need time with family and am not blaming them.)

A lot depends on this PR and hope that this all gets resolved in Jan.

Don't worry. Based on your timeline it hasn't been long enough to worry about not receiving a PPR request. Yes, it usually is always arbitrary and at the hands of the VO but I think you haven't passed the projected time to worry. Everything will be fine, fingers crossed. :)

thanks lithium. I was wondering is there a way to know what is happening with securiy and criminality progress. Moreover is there also a way to understand what is going on? I am just being paranoid as I see other people who did not get PPR after medicals are the ones who find out from MP that they are stalled due to security or criminality is in progress.

I am just praying that should not be the case why mine is being stalled. I only will find out when i get my GCMS which is probably on 30th december .

I was going to recommend ordering GCMS notes but if you already have, then I would wait for them to review your case and see where it's at.

Hi All,

I landed today! @ Peace Bridge (Fort Erie). I had the following documents: Passports, CoPR, employment letter, bank statements, current work permits.

Took a U-turn. Informed officer at the counter that we're here to land and that we took a U-turn. He asked me following: Any goods to import from home country - said no. $10,000 cash - said no. Any duty free items - said no. Then he gave me a slip and asked me to park the car. We (my spouse and I) went inside the building. The officer asked me if I'm here to complete landing - said yes. She took our passports and CoPRs. Asked us to sign the CoPRs. She stamped the visa and signed CoPR. She explained our rights as PR (no voting, no top level govt position) and our obligation to retain PR(must stay in Canada every 2 our of 5 years). She didn't ask for any other documents (bank statements, current work permit etc) . Finally she congratulated us. The whole process took 10 mins.

I wish everyone the best. This forum has been a great support.

Thank you !
