If only I had considered "jobs" towards "Immigration" !?!

Thank God I didn't -- & I'm happy for that... 'coz then my thinking would have been flawed ! Immigrating to Canada was a blessing -- there was much more to that decision than "Jobs" alone. The implicacies of that decision has been spellbinding to my family... I did it good... good for them !

Sometimes ignorance is a bliss, isn't it?

@info-gc,

I and my family are very disappointed by your hard luck of no job for almost 10 years and by the fact that there are almost no jobs in Canada. I want to ask some basic questions:-

1- I am unemployed in Pakistan for one year and I have to borrow money to meet my family expenses. How you are able to meet expenses of you and your family for TEN years with being umemployed or with worker jobs?

2- Have you borrowed money during this period during ten years as I have to borrow money during one year of unemployment? If so then how much?

3- Are worker level jobs paid you enough that you meet the expenses of family for ten years and you also got very expensive canadian higher education while being totally unemployed? This point totally confuses me how you were able to raise family and paid education loan while being unemployed.

Your answers will help me to raise my family during unemployement in my own country.

canada4all, please read my post #2 on page #1 for details.

I worked for the better part of those 10 years. However I had only one real engineering job for 3years and one short time contract.

During the 7 years that remain unaccounted for, I did the following things:

-studied at a local University (with mostly government funds and about $3,000 of my savings) - 2 years

-did odd jobs for about 3 years

-EI (looking for work) 1.5 years

-The only time when I had Zero income was this summer. In four months I lost $7,000 with my wife working.

This is the really scary part; the moment your income stops, you sink like a rock.

Somebody mentions it is hard everywhere and even in India you can expect to look "for a better job for a couple of months".

A couple of months to me are not a problem at all. Looking for this job FIVE YEARS however is.
The other thing that should be considered is, if you found it hard in your country you just happened to be born there. With Canada, you actually came because you were made to believe there were opportunities for you. This is the problem. And if in your country you can expect good and bad times, I will be predicting always hard times in Canada as it accepts always more people than the jobs it has to offer.

Thanx for your post.
You made your points clear enough.
I have few comments though,
Even with your canadian academic qualification you are having hard time!! Thats a scary part.
But you also have three years engineering job experience during your last 10 years in canada, why not this experience plus your canadian academic qualification helping you?
No matter what, I am sure you will land a job son enough if you are vigilant.
In subcontinent ( Indian,Pakistan, Bangladesh) getting job may be harder but remember there is no way you can do survival jobs ( Because WE ALL HAVE BIG FAT EGO PROBLEM) and maintain you family like the way you can do it in canada plus your children are receiving good education. It's a plus. Isn't it?
Wish you all the best.

All I can say is that its been hard luck for you info-gc, but it can happen in any country with anybody.
But you have been a survivor by living in canada for so many years without a job, in developing countries thats a big problem.
Moreover there r other benefits like good living standard, good education for kids, basic amenities are better.

Just an idea - how about doing something of your own, like having a franchise or something?

I understand your situation but all i can say is that everybody has different luck.
I know someone who had been in canada for last 10 years, he migrated at around 40 had 2 kids already, but did certain certifications, wife worked, got a good job and they have been living in their own 4 bedroom home for last 5 years. Kids going to good university, one has even secured a good job in a great company.

I am giving this example not to make you feel bad, but for other people to know that different people have different experiences!!!

I agree with info-gc he is 100% right here people after landing realize their mistake until then they do not want to hear the truth. Once they land they cannot go back because of several reasons, some leave their good jobs, some sell off their properties, and some do not go back because they fear that the friends and relatives make fun of them.Ultimately they have to struggle a lot here without any joy. People who land here will have to forget their smile. So it is better to work hard in ones own country and make their bright future instead of migrating to Canada.

My 2 cents:
As much as I have the tendency to partially agree with what you are saying, I however disagree with your conclusion, which I think should be left to the individual(s) concerned.
Let me put it this way, "Guy's, don't burn all your ships" - the ship-burning metaphor assumes that success is entirely within your control.
However, Generally it isn't. Even with a burning desire to succeed and a great strategy, one can still fail. And failure means you've stranded yourself without an alternative route. In effect what I am trying to say is whoever is planning to immigrate needs to have a plan before hand and against failure. You need to visualize, half a glass full of water as both half empty and half full. If not, you and you alone are to blame, As the grass is never always greener on the other side. Of course immigrating involves sacrificing and compromising. If you are not ready to do this. I would advise you to stay put wherever you are. It is quiet OK for you and info-gc to disclose and reveal your experiences here but the decision bit should be left to the people concerned themselves. It is there take.
I would say, Instead of digging back into the past and thinking of things that make it impossible for one to go back, why not build a bridge for yourselves that allows you to go forward.

Good Luck.

On one of the threads, someone mentioned "The Secret". I read it a while ago, so can't recall the details, but the gist of it is that POSITIVES ATTRACT, NEGATIVES REPEL. Part of the script was MANIFEST. You visualize what it is you want to achieve, you plan for it and put in place all the steps you have to accomplish it. You make your thoughts and actions positive. Like the old saying "You attract more flies with honey than you do with vinegar", if you put out a positive manner others are more likely to want to help you and be around you. You see it on the forum...someone makes a prickly comment about something/someone and others shy away. So you make your plans and visualizations and make it happen. Try it the next time you are looking for a parking space. BELIEVE you will find one, just say MANIFEST to yourself. See what happens. At the very least I think this sort of positive energy can help your own blood pressure and heart rate stay healthy. Not everything will go the way you want it, but you can control how you will react and move on. My nickel (2 cents + HST).

Interesting read that thread..

I for one am happy that NOC 1122 is full. I wish it will completely disappear from the NOC list completely. What Canada needs is not more studied people, they have their own to look after. What they need is qualified and experienced tradesmen and workers like the current list suggest.

Too many people focus on studying hard, but have no job to go to. I have been working the last 4 years with Indian nationals in an educational environment. Their approach to success it the more degrees you have the better the jobs. I have had a student with 2 MBA's majoring in Accountancy and one in Marketing. But he was unable to distinguish between net and gross profit. How helpful is that. He must have bought his degrees..

In the western world, I give a hoot about your qualification, show me your experience and how you can contribute to my company what profitability is concerned. Demonstrate your ability to work, don't talk about it. That is the big difference and it will lead to success.
