Just was on CIC's site and see they've redone the whole thing. Ottawa is on there now

Processing time is listed as 12 months though :(

A lot of people are getting approved well before then! It was from August to now for us.

Hope they're as quick with mine :)

Wow, that is fast! I'm guessing you got really, really lucky, I haven't seen anyone else from August get any news back yet.

Ours got to CIC on August 13th, not too long before yours.

EDIT: Nevermind. I'm dumb. I thought you meant you applied in August, haha. I need to learn how to read.

I WISH it was that fast, hehe. They are moving fast though!!

Yeah I have a feeling that we are going to be the ones that get that short end of the stick and are sitting in the 12 month crap heap!!!!

Nah, I know the website says 12 months but all of the spread sheets say it's shorter, for the most part.

I think CIC puts up more months than it actually takes so that we can complain when our application is taking a while, it just keeps us from bothering them is all. haha

Positive thinking! =)

Congrats, sariss!

Seems like Ottawa is moving quickly before the holidays! :)

I hope so because I get so depressed every time I see people that applied months after us landing :-[ and if that is CIC's plan it hasn't stopped us that much..lol I sent an email in October when there wasn't a posted time on-line and it took a few days for them to get back to us saying that Ottawa was running at 10 months at that point. Now I'm waiting to hear back again because I sent an email asking about the fact that my husband's medical will be a year (and there for expired I think) and I wanted to know if we are going to have to cough up $500 to do it again >:( so I guess we will wait and see... I'm keeping my fingers crossed that an email will come with positive news!

I don't think you will have to! Ours expired on October 22nd and we had an almost identical time-line to yours. We received our PR on Dec. 3rd. Unless there's something specific/unusual about it--I think they're more keen to give extensions on the medicals. Best of luck! Keep thinking positive!

On another issue, does anyone know... exactly what the COPR entails, i.e. does it come WITH a SIN # and a healthcare #? I mean I know that Healthcare is per province, but I was born with that so I don't even know where you'd go to get it. Do they provide instructions for all that stuff?

ALSO... another silly question maybe... but my husband has a Californian driver's license... does he HAVE to change it to an Albertan one to drive... does he have a time limit? Bah, it's not even worth driving in this city, ANYWAY, but I thought I'd check.

If anyone has convenient and handy links, that'd be great!

thanks.

You're correct, if the only thing holding back an application is the medical then the office can extend it.

And no, COPR doesn't come with your SIN or healthcare or anything, you have to apply for that on your own once you're in Canada, some people do it as soon as the same day the land. I'm sure they can give you a bit of info about it when you land, if not, there's a ton of it here on the forums just do a bit a searching and you'll find it.

I'm not sure on the answer for this one, but I would have to say that it would be most wise to get a Canadian one, he shouldn't have to retake any tests as far as I know. But, if you don't need a car, then don't have one! Because they are EXPENSIVE haha We also live in a big city(Vancouver) and there's just really no need for a car unless you're going on vacation out of town(aka, rent one).
