Spoke to my attorney! They have my COPR! It's going to be Fed-Exed to me as soon as we pay the courier fees, which we will be doing today!

Your attorney obviously has quite the trust relationship with you - insisting on cash up front before incurring any out of pocket expenses... :-\

Congratulations on getting that COPR - I look forward to hearing your landing story soon!

lalune117's attorney said paying the RPRF fee later wouldn't delay COPR (that was in February, right?). If I'd advised my client that poorly, I'd want to get paid up front, too.

If you advised your clients that poorly you wouldn't really deserve any clients.

In all fairness, immigration law is really a numbers game for lawyers (most of my dealings with attorneys is in the area of IP law. At one point last year I sat in a room in which I computed the cost of the lawyers for one side had to be around $10k per hour. Immigration lawyers typically get much less than that for the entire engagement.) Still, like any endeavour some do better than others.

Yeah, my attorney got a total of two grand on a flat rate.

I did the sponsored application myself (having my spouse sign in the relevant spots plus writing the narrative we included with the letter) so there were no legal fees for that one. But for the FSW application I paid out $12k plus almost $2k in expenses, so it definitely adds up.

Agreed, seems like a nonsensical approach to me, as the majority of those in the US still receive a PPR. Our passports were nowhere near the expiration date and copies sent at the beginning, and, since they only ask to see the cover page, there's no evidence of stamps which show any travel activity, but we went through the PPR, as well. Apparently, they have a reason...

Once you receive the PPR e-mail do you typically (post) mail this copy of the front page? Or can this be e-mailed? I guess this would just be to make sure none of your information has changed? Seems a bit silly to me as well, as my passport does not expire until 2016...oh well, they are the boss! :)

Hello everyone, I started my application in December and sent it in on the 8th December last year to Mississauga. My wife got the SA from Mississauga on feb 14 and still haven't heard anything since. I called the centre and they told me my application is in Ottawa and they do not have any information on my file because it is an outside Canada application. They said it could take 14months so I shouldn't look to hear anything from Ottawa till feb next year. Has anyone done this similar process? Does it really take that long? :( I was kinda hoping to get PPR this month but I guess not:(

If all goes smoothly, you might get lucky and get your PPR and COPR in July or August. If CPP-O requests any additional documents, you might have a much longer wait. I think it's mostly a matter of luck.

Does everyone get PPR and COPR at the same time or is it PPR first? I sent photocopies of my passport page, not sure why they would want to see my passport. Did anyone apply the same way that I did and got PPR early?

PPR is first. Sometimes they skip PPR and go straight to COPR, but only rarely. Usually it's PPR and then 10-30 days after you send them a copy of your passport, you get your COPR in the mail. If they ask for anything other than a copy of your passport, you can wait for months (my family's been waiting for 4 months since PPR so far, but that's not the usual course of events).

So I just had to call my attorney and prod them because they never sent the email with instructions to pay the Fed-Ex fee...

I think she's just trying to cover herself, but she went "Oh! I'm going to resend it to you right away. Call me if you haven't gotten it in fifteen minutes."

I would NOT recommend this firm to anyone. They are not competent in my opinion.
