Hello,

I was going to ask about the certification of the passport copies and the translation of the IDs, when I saw Tasirmans question on Apr 7, 2018.

Regarding the passports:

From what I understood, a copy of the new version of passport does NOT need certification. Is that correct?
Cause in the Country specific requirements regarding Egypt, it is mentioned that Official and civil documents must be certified copies.

I did some digging about the certification, but with no luck. Some translation offices claim that their stamp would do the job. I highly doubt that. Plus, the ministry of Foreign Affairs won't stamp the copies as a "true copy".

Any solid input in the regards will be highly appreciated.

Regarding the national IDs:

Hrubmo recommended “North Cairo Court for First Instance, Department of translation” but unfortunately, I am in Alexandria.
I tried the ministry of Justice here but also with no luck. They said the ID doesn’t get translated as the passport is a legal replacement with all the information in English. Except the ID number itself of course. It was a dead end.

Any one can pitch in with useful information Please?
I don’t have much faith in any private translation offices as it is highly unregulated market. Anyone can claim anything. Unlike the government translations which I try to stick to.

Thank you,

From what I remember, the passport doesn't need a certification, except for Quebec. (Needed for CSQ request.) Anyway, it doesn't harm to make a True Copy. You can do that in any notary. Quick searches on Google and I found that you can get it for 5$ at Alexandria Law Library.

I don't remember we have to send a copy of the ID card... maybe it's new. When I called CIC, they told me they always use the name in the passport. If you really need it, I'm pretty sure any translator office could do it.

That Library you mentioned belongs to Alexandria, Virginia NOT Alexandria, Egypt.

The ID is a way to demonstrate common residency for me and my spouse.

Damn it! Why there's not only one Alexandria!!! Sorry I didn't check carefully! Maybe a lawyer office could make it? Otherwise it looks to be in Cairo. :(
I'm sure any translator office could translate your ID. :)
Good luck!

No worries. Thanks for the effort, much appreciated.

I managed to find someone who will translate the IDs for me at North Cairo Court. He will get the Foreign affairs certification stamps done as well. That issue is resolved I guess.

Regarding the passports, the CIC website for checklist, forms and instructions - Country specific requirements - explicitly states
1. If the principal applicant holds a passport or travel document from this country, he/she must provide a FULL copy of all passports used in the last 5 years.
2. All civil and official documents MUST be certified copies.

Is a certified copy the same as a certified true copy?
Does anyone recently apply to sponsorship with a non-certified copy of his/her passport?
And if so, how far did the application go through?
Was the non-certified copy of his/her passport a no issue?

To Clarify more about translation and certified copy questions

scenario 1: if the Original document is in English
that doesn't require a translation (of course) and doesn't require a true copy, simply the officers will understand it
example (new Egyptian Passports). you only need to photocopy it and include it in the application

Scenario 2: if the Original document is not in English
for each original you need to provide 2 things:
a) the translation
this is the translation of the original document, it states all the information of the original document but in English and stamped as (certified translation)
b) a true (certified) copy
this is a copy of the Arabic document but stamped by the translation office. the stamp just certifies that this (Arabic) copy is a true copy of the (Arabic) original

in Egypt, you may be able to issue some document (IN ENGLISH), so, for example, the birth certificate can be issued in English. in that case, you will follow scenario 1

note that Marriage certificate MUST be non-computerized, means you cannot use the automated marriage certificate and you have to use the one you sign it (with both pictures on)

hopefully, that helps everyone

Thanks

@M-13 thanks for raising the questions we had again for clarification... we’re translating the ID at North Cairo court. We were going to pick up translations tomorrow but because of floods, it looks like it’s going to be next week. Thanks so much, everybody, for clarifying about passport copy. Does that mean that empty pages need to be copied as well or just the front page with ID info? Thanks all!

Hello everyone,
Glad to find Egyptians in the house :)
We currently reside in Dubai, my husband got a job offer and processing times in Dubai are horrible.. could take 6-9 months... my question: is it possible I can apply in egypt since it’s my home country? Even though I don’t reside there?
Any one applied for a work permit in Egypt? What was ur time line? How fast did you get it?

Yes. . Work permit from Canada can take up to a year so be patient.

Regarding your application. . Your husband employer may apply for (spousal work permit) as part of the relocation package..

If not then you have to apply from your current residence country. . Blv me it's better :)

Good luck inshallah :)

Thanks , but do you think it’s possible to apply in Egypt even if we reside in Dubai?

We also have TRV applications processing . Do you know if we’re allowed to apply for a work permit while the TRVs are being processed or do we have to wait/ withdraw to be able to apply for a new visa?

I’d also like to know how long did it take for Egyptians to get their TRVs ? Ours is in background check since day one . Is that normal or does it mean it will get delayed? I couldn’t find any timelines for Egyptians.

hahaha ... a lot to answer ..so let's go

do you think it’s possible to apply in Egypt even if we reside in Dubai
immigration specialist will be more helpful than me :)

Do you know if we’re allowed to apply for a work permit while the TRVs are being processed
again, you need immigration specialist :)

how long did it take for Egyptians to get their TRVs
based on the website, processing time is 17 days assuming complete package
check this http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/times/

background check since day one . Is that normal
it's very normal, duration of background check depends on age, occupation, travel history and other criteria .... so .... don't panic :)

hope I was able to answer all your questions, and my apologies for the question I don't know the answer about

Thanks @Asamir
I’m trying not to panic :D
Since my husband was offered a job the HR told him the immigration lawyer with do all the paperwork and get back to us so we are hopeful the TRVs would be issued by then.
Do you have any experience with duration of processing the work permit from Egypt? Any one you know got issed a permit in 2 or 3 months ?? Because in Dubai it’s around a year ... which is ridiculous.

TRV from Egypt may actually take longer.
in fact, the visa office doesn't make that big difference as you think
The employer has to submit a full package application to Canadian labor market first, then prepare a full package application for a work permit.
whatever visa office you will apply for has to perform a background check on your husband and you in all countries you lived in since 10 years ago. you will see that they will ask for a police fingerprints certificate (feesh w tashbeh) in all countries you lived in for the past 10 years.
these are procedures and whatever visa office your document will go to it will follow the same process

in addition, the employer submit the TRV/Work permit for you, you don't have the option to choose which office.

again, everything comes to this statement

Be Patient, Don't panic, expect a long process (a year almost)

another note you have to consider, you are mashallah mashallah mashallah lucky to get a work permit from Canada. this is really a rare case to find among Egyptians so mashallah 3alykom w rabna ye7roskom mn el3een :)

I wish you and your husband all the luck and we are always here to help you through the process as much as we can :)
